SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) -- San Diego Sheriff's detectives found a handwritten note in the burned-out home of James DiMaggio; the man who was shot and killed by FBI agents in Idaho after allegedly kidnapping a Lakeside teenager on August 4.
The content of the note was not revealed in the latest search warrant released Thursday at the request of News 8, and it is unknown if the note is related to the kidnapping of Hannah Anderson, 16.
In an emailed response to News 8, Sheriff's spokesperson Jan Caldwell said, "Many portions of this investigation cannot be discussed. Sorry this is one if them."
Also found in the home were "Letters from Hanna" (sic), apparently written by the teen victim, and which were not detailed in the warrant.
The letters were denoted in the warrant as "D&C Letters from Hanna" (sic), indicating the documents initially were taken by detectives to prove DiMaggio had "dominion and control" (D&C) over the home and property.

Hannah Anderson strictly a victim of DiMaggio, sheriff maintains

    LA Times
    August 17, 2013

The San Diego County Sheriff's Department's continuing investigation of Hannah Anderson's alleged kidnapping has revealed new evidence, but officials said they still believe Anderson was strictly a victim in the ordeal.

    [snip]

"As Sheriff Gore said earlier in the week, Hannah is a victim in every sense of the word," Caldwell said in an email. "Our follow-up investigation has not changed that sentence."

‘Hannah is a victim in every sense of the word.’ Authorities maintain California teen played no role in kidnap ordeal
By Joe Kemp / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
    Saturday, August 17, 2013, 9:19 AM

Letters Hannah Anderson wrote to the man who allegedly abducted her reveal extensive communication between the pair before her captor killed the teen’s mother and little brother — but authorities maintain the teen was still a victim.

The court documents don't spell out the significance of the items seized from the suspect's house. They include a gas can, empty ammunition boxes, shotgun shells, a handcuff box, incendiary devices, and something described as "arson wire."

No. 37 on the list was "D & C letters from Hanna" — with no confirmation that referred to Anderson or any details of what the letters said.
Police have not revealed a motive for the double slaying and abduction.
Horseback rider: Hannah Anderson was in 'survival mode'
By Kevin Tibbles at Morehead Lake and Becky Bratu in New York, NBC News

Backcountry horseback riders saw fear in the eyes of 16-year-old kidnap victim Hannah Anderson when they stumbled across her and murder suspect James Lee DiMaggio in a remote corner of the Idaho wilderness, a chance encounter that may have saved the young girl's life, two of the riders told NBC News.

"The look on... I seen on her face was pretty much fear. I didn't like what I'd seen on his face," rider Mike Young said of the chance encounter that may have saved the young California girl's life.

Mary Young says she saw it, too: "She was in survival mode. She was doing what she was told to do."

James DiMaggio left life insurance to Hannah Anderson's grandmother

DiMaggio's sister spoke to him once about his beneficiary, Spanswick said, and he indicated that the money was to go to Hannah and her brother, Ethan. DiMaggio told his sister he didn't want to leave it to the children's parents because he felt their relationship was "too unstable" and they might divorce, Spanswick said.

James DiMaggio family requests DNA samples for Hannah Anderson, her brother

The reason? They want to know if he was Hannah and 8-year-old Ethan's biological father, a family spokesman said.
It's my opinion if no link provided.

Family no longer seeks kidnapped Calif. teen's DNA

The sister of a man suspected of kidnapping a 16-year-old girl and killing the teen's mother and younger brother said she no longer wants paternity tests to determine if the suspect fathered the children.
"They should come back to us and explain what happened," she said. "They could come forward with evidence — evidence and facts instead of verbally coming out and saying he did it. Where's the proof?

...."Detectives also overlooked a surveillance camera at the Golden Acorn Casino in Boulevard, and another one across the street from Sweetwater High School, where DiMaggio picked up Hannah from cheer camp August 3.

In addition, the principal of Sweetwater High School said detectives never approached the school with questions about Hannah Anderson, DiMaggio, or potential surveillance video recorded on campus."...

    Autopsy: Christina Anderson was bound

Authorities have said Christina Anderson, 44, died of blunt-force trauma to the head and that a crowbar was found near her body.
The autopsy said Ethan most likely died due to the fire, but that he also had skeletal fractures, and trauma could not be ruled out as a possible cause of the fractures.

It was because Hannah Anderson is still alive, and is only 16, and I agree
