Teen suicide after cops crack facebook joke about him

A sheriff's office in Idaho is being accused of driving 19-year-old Andrew Cain to kill himself after posting a message on its Facebook feed that read: "We have decided that Andrew Cain is no longer the Wanted Person of the Week… he is the Wanted Person of the Month of June. Congratulations!

Cain, who lived in nearby Pullman, Wash., had a number of arrest warrants in the Idaho county, including driving without privileges, possession of a controlled substance, and a third that police wouldn't divulge to the press.

So... Is the sheriff's office responsible for bullying the young man or was his death caused only by his own criminal path?

The particular comment quoted above doesn't seem too outlandish to me, but still it's not very professional or cool to post, IMO. I doubt that alone would cause someone to commit suicide -- although, you never know.

The story at the link indicates that a family member has said that particular post was not the only questionable action, though. Who knows?

Anyhow, it's sad that the young man is gone and his family is grieving. Prayers for them.

So young. Imo, it doesn't seem professional for authorities to use social media in any way other than simply posting wanted notices, or was there any real need to post a wanted message on the teen at all? It's sad that he chose suicide.

The "teen" is by law a full fledged adult.

Its not like they put out a 'Wanted Dead or Alive' post/er on him. I think his death is sad, I think he was possibly riddled with problems that his so called caring family maybe turned a blind eye and/or deaf ear to. Or, like many families they really didn't know how to help him so they stuffed it away and pretended like all was well. I don't know, but to blame it all on a comment by a Sheriff's Department? Good grief!!! I have no patience today for that.

nothing wrong with the comment IMO

the family is naturally grief-stricken and are understandibly lashing out but Cain's issues clearly stem from long before him being featured on a wanted criminal list

I feel sorry for what his family is going through but face book is allowed by everyone who wants to use it. Police included. Nothing wrong with their post.

I love it when the Police use the internet to catch child predators.

I sure think the 19 year old killed himself because he didn't want to go back to jail.

So sad... may he rest in peace. Suicide is the fault of no one, after all. His problems most likely were deep rooted long before his criminal actions and the sheriff's office social media post. I can only pray that this family gets the peace and answers they are searching for. Surely the sheriff's office did not intend for this outcome upon their lighthearted post.
