Stapleton pleaded not guilty in the Benzie County courtroom.

    -----------------

Batzer refused to sign the form, which would have allowed an assessment of Stapleton to determine if she was sane at the time she allegedly committed the crime.

Judge James Batzer declined to sign the motion because Stapleton’s attorneys haven’t filed a notice that they intend to make an insanity defense. Hodek said Stapleton’s attorneys plan several court filings in the next week, but didn’t comment on whether they’ll mount such a defense.

    ----------------------

Court documents state Stapleton told authorities that years of frustration with dealing with Issy’s condition and behavior led her to believe the best solution was if they both “went to heaven.”

Wow. That page makes me want to barf.
In March 2012, sometime between 4:45 and 5:45 am, Molly Young was shot in the head and killed with her ex-boyfriend's gun. Sometime after 9 am, Molly's ex-boyfriend called 911 to report she had overdosed in his bedroom and died.
There were no significant levels of drugs or alcohol found in Molly's system.

Help Molly's family in their quest for a complete and thorough investigation into her death.

At least $16,000 has been raised for Kelli's defense.
While I realize that isn't a lot for a murder case... it just bothers me.
If I was Kelli I would want that money to go to a fund for my daughter...
To help her live the best life she could under the circumstances.

I don't see anything new despite the trial being scheduled to start April 2.

I did find an interview with Kelli from before the crime... not sure if it's been posted.
It's at the bottom of this article:

Here is another article on mental illness treatment issues... talks about Kelli Stapleton and Kelly Thomas.

Benzie County Judge James Batzer turned down a request by Heidi Hodek to stop representing Kelli Stapleton, who goes to trial Sept. 3 in northern Michigan... In a court filing, Hodek said Stapleton has “become increasingly hostile” and has accused the lawyer of “not having her interests at heart.”

Letters written by Stapleton with inaccurate information have been seized by jail staff and are potentially damaging to her defense, Hodek said.

“There has been a complete and total breakdown in the attorney-client relationship in this case,” said Hodek, who added that she can’t provide “detached and objective legal advice.”

    Trial begins tomorrow.

    http://www.nbcnews.com/health/health...ughter-n155816

Matt Stapleton said he’s worked hard with the help of family and other supporters to help all three of his children cope with their mother’s acts. Issy has recovered and doesn’t understand what happened. The other children have received bi-weekly calls from their mother so that they know she’s OK.

Stapleton won’t comment on his hopes for a verdict or other outcome, but he said he hopes his ex-wife’s trial helps raise awareness for others.

“Issy is alive and I'll never complain,” he said. “This is more than just our case. There are a number of tragic situations out there.”

A northern Michigan woman accused of trying to kill her autistic daughter has pleaded guilty to first-degree child abuse...

Stapleton had been scheduled to go on trial Wednesday on a charge of attempted murder.

Tang-Anderson says no sentencing date was set. The maximum punishment for the charge is life in prison.

Kelli Stapleton, the woman accused of trying to kill her autistic daughter and herself, told TV personality Dr. Phil that being locked up is easier than dealing with a violent, autistic child.

Asked if she felt a “guilty pleasure of relief” in jail, Stapleton said: “The jail of Benzie County has been a much kinder warden than the jail of autism has been.”

A judge Wednesday sentenced the mother of an autistic Michigan teenager to 10-22 years in prison for what the woman described as a failed murder-suicide attempt brought on by despair after years of violent attacks by her child and failure to find affordable and effective treatment...

Circuit Judge James Batzer ordered Stapleton to serve a minimum of 10 years before becoming eligible for parole, though she will get credit for the 399 days she's already served. He set her maximum sentence at 22 years.

I could convict her. I don't think ten years is enough.
