MI - Devon Morrison, 10, Belding, 14 Sept 2013
Devon Morrison left at 10:30am Saturday 9/14 to go fishing alone (not unusual for him).
He was to call his parents every 2 hours for check-in.
He called at 12:30pm
Neighbor saw him walking with fishing pole at 2:30pm
He was reported missing at 6:15pm (no reason given for delay)
Shoes were found and family said "pretty sure" they are Devon's.
I hope I did these threads correctly, if I did not, please fix them, dear moderators. Thank you.
LE found the can of worms he was using to catch fish near the Flat River.
This report states a neighbor found the can of worms:
Devon has been reported as having Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
I pray he got lost and he will be found soon!!♥"If what goes up must come down, then what goes missing must be found."♥Please watch your children; never assume they are okay alone.

BELDING — More than 22 hours since he was last spotted, the search continues today for a 10-year-old Belding boy who went missing after he left his home to go fishing along the Flat River Saturday morning.
Devon Morrison was reported missing by his mother after he left his home on Harrison Street on the northeastern side of the city to go fishing at the Flat River, about 700 feet from home, at 10:30 a.m.
According to Police Chief Dale Nelson, the last confirmed sighting of Devon came later at 2:30 p.m. when a neighbor said they spotted him walking along the road with his fishing pole in hand. He is believed to have been wearing a red sweatshirt with the word “Starter” written across the chest and black pants.

FBI joins search for 10-year-old in Belding; chief calls disappearance 'suspicious'
BELDING, MI — A large, multi-agency search continues in Belding for missing Devon Morrison, who was last seen near his home on Saturday with a fishing pole headed toward the Flat River.
The disappearance is considered suspicious, said Belding Police Chief Dale Nelson.
“Because he has not been located and we don’t have a firm direction as to where he’s at, were treating it as a possible criminal activity,” said Nelson.

I wish I knew how to paste in articles that have photos. Thank you very much for doing that, Bessie.
Getting lost doesn't seem feasible to me ;( I hope that is the case, but according to his family this is something he does frequently (goes fishing alone). I'd think he would know that area by now if that is the case, and wouldn't get lost easily. Ugh
I want to know why he wasn't reported missing until 6:15pm when the last anyone saw of him was 2:30pm. I'm not casting blame at all, just seems like an awfully long time (almost 4 hours) before he was reported as missing.♥"If what goes up must come down, then what goes missing must be found."♥Please watch your children; never assume they are okay alone.

700 feet from home and it wasn't called int to LE until after 6pm?Six-year-old Shannon Sherrill disappeared from her front yard in Thorntown, Indiana in October, 1986. Someone knows where she is......

The comments under the news story that was posted are getting heated. LE checked the river, hopefully the latest search party will find him on foot. Although, they found his shoes, which scares me.

Police say an Amber Alert has not been issued since Morrison does not meet the age specifications and they do not think he was abducted.

I don't understand the age thing...he's 10 years old, plenty young enough for Amber Alert, no? Michigan says 17 years of age or younger.
With regard to his shoes being ID'd by family...I don't think that says anything. He could have been wading and the shoes were on the bank of the river...water brought the shoes into the main current. It's happened to me before countless times.
Please be SAFE, Devon. Would be really awesome to see a happy ending, all the cases I have seen so far on WS are sad ones. Let this one be different, please.

Slightly O/T, but relevant (IMO) to kids around Devon's age who use cell phones.
Many kids Devon's age have cell phone's nowadays. When I was his age, my mother would not allow my brother and I to simply have our own cell phone for private use, but she did get a phone that we could take if we went to the mall or another location without a parent. For safety.
Now, I know many young kids and young teens have "smart phones" they carry with them. I found a FREE app called "Life360" (there are probably other, similar apps). The app allows you to add your family members (with that person's consent), and then you are able to view that individual's location within seconds at any given time. You are also able to see the history of their movements... their path. No waiting for cell phone records from the wireless provider or warrants. The app also allows you to silently send a panic alert.
I know that parents today often feel like they are fighting a losing battle keeping their kids away from online predators, etc. BUT there are pieces of technology that can help us observe our children for added safety. I don't have older kids or young teens yet, but when I do I will definitely be utilizing technology to help keep them safe.
I don't know what the situation is with the phone Devon was supposed to be calling from every two hours. Hopefully LE will be able to ping the phone's location and see what direction the phone and possibly Devon headed after he was last seen.Just my opinion!

Search is ongoing, the FBI is involved. Disappearance is called suspicious. The press is picking up the story. Here are some more articles:
This one has a map and shows how close the river is to the home.
as news of his disappearance was not made public until after 10 p.m. Saturday evening.
family members are being questioned, but authorities have not identified any suspects or persons of interest.
“Because he has not been located and we don’t have a firm direction as to where he’s at, were treating it as a possible criminal activity,”
Does not meet the criteria for an Amber Alert.

This article has a different picture of him, also gives his mother's name. http://www.woodtv.com/web/woodtv/new...sing-10-yr-oldPlease be aware that what I type is my opinion.

Well, a neighbor said they saw him walking with his fishing pole around 2:30pm...but parents say the last call they got was 12:30pm. The neighbor said it looked like he was walking away from the river. ...with no shoes?
(they didn't say the no shoes part, I did...just wondering if he had shoes on when they saw him).♥"If what goes up must come down, then what goes missing must be found."♥Please watch your children; never assume they are okay alone.

authorities did not issue an Amber Alert because the case did not meet initial criteria: Morrison was not seen with anyone who could cause him harm and does not have a medical condition that poses an immediate health risk. Please be aware that what I type is my opinion.

IMHO, they should use the fact that he has ADHD to issue the amber alert, every minute is so crucial.
