CA - Renato Teniente, 60, robbed & killed, Long Beach, 22 Nov 1995
September 19, 2013
LONG BEACH >> Nearly two decades after a 60-year-old pizza delivery man was gunned down in his vehicle, authorities announced Thursday they have arrested two suspects in the crime, including one already serving a life sentence for murder.
Venda Johnson, 35, who is in Buena Vista State Prison in Colorado for a murder conviction, and James Lemon, 34, were arrested in connection with the shooting death of Renato Teniente on Nov. 22, 1995, police officials said.
FBI agents arrested Lemon on Thursday morning in Las Vegas. Both men were 17 at the time of the killing.
Authorities contacted Teniente’s daughter, Ressie Christopherson of Northern California, his only living relative, to give her the news.
“She was ecstatic,” said Sgt. Erik Herzog with the Long Beach Police Homicide Bureau. “It kind of came out of left field for her, and she was very happy to hear there were arrests in the case.”

The Long Beach Police Department Cold Case Unit’s latest victory came on a rainy, overcast day in early December as the saga of a nearly 20-year-old murder came to a close.
About 19 years after Renato Teniente was gunned down in North Long Beach after delivering a pizza, a jury found two men guilty of the killing.
James Lemon and Venda Johnson, both 35, were both convicted of first- degree murder for the Nov. 22, 1995, killing of Renato Teniente. Jurors also found true a special circumstance allegation of murder in the commission of an attempted robbery.
They both face life in prison without the possibility of parole when they are sentenced Jan. 20...
Lemon and Johnson did not face the death penalty for the Long Beach killing because they were both 17 at the time of the crime.
