Northbound would be on his way home. He worked in Wood Dale which is south of his home. Heading north would be the correct direction for going home.

Are we jusing I-Pass and E-Z Pass interchangably? In IL we have an I-Pass and it only tracks which tolls you go through. If he went through the Touhey I-Pass station and they are not reporting any other hits on the I-Pass, I assume that means his car did not go through any other exits or open lane tolls on the Tri-State. In order for him to get home via interstate, he would have gone through a few more tolls. Of course, he could have taken non-toll roads home as well. I believe that is why his family assumes he stopped for cigarettes.

I assume this is related to On Star. I'm also assuming his car was equipped with it, but it was not activated. On my iPhone, if I do not turn on the GPS feature, it cannot be remotely found. I'm assuming a similar practice is in play here.
    Eternally optimistic!

Even if he hasn't activated the on*star service, it is still there. If he were to push the button in his car it would connect to a switchboard or whatever and ask if he wanted to activate his service. My understanding is if the airbag deploys, on*star gets the signal. My point is, the police should be able to locate the car imo. jmo

Onstar cannot track your vehicle if its stolen if you have decided to drop your service...

Once the service is deactivated, you need to press the BLUE onstar button in the vehicle to reactivate your service, you cannot call to have it reactivated, because you need the signal from your system to do that

One thought that I had today - and not to place blame or anything - just a thought ---

What if he ended up going for drinks, got involved in an accident of some sort -maybe damaged property, etc. and in fear of getting a DUI, he is hiding out?

Probably not super realistic but just a thought that came to my mind today.

Maybe I am jaded.... But if the car dealers and/or LE really, really, really want to find out where a car is... The GPS tracking device can be utilized...,even,if not activated by the owner of the car... KWIM?

But...,they probably do not want this ability publicized, either...

(I later went back to the car, thinking "what if he switched the plates?" but the car had left by then)

What really gets me is the 5 hours from when he went through the toll to where his cell phone pinged off the exit. What could he have been doing for 5 hours? My first thought was the casino, but why would he go to the casino if he told his wife he was on his way home from work?

Nothing makes sense, and believe me, as I was driving around, I was trying to think of everything possible. It was about 11 PM when I was over there, and it was still a pretty busy area, even at that time. At 5:30 PM, it would have been even busier. I just can't see anything happening to a grown man in that area in broad daylight. So if nothing happened to him then, where was he for those 5 hours?

The ONLY thing that makes the most sense to me (and it still doesn't completely make sense) is that he met someone and dropped his car off in that area, with the cell phone still in the car. I just don't know what else makes more sense than that.

This is such a confusing case, but I'm glad to finally see a Facebook page up for him. Hopefully that will bring in some good leads or sightings.

To get to River Rd from I294 North you have to exit at West Touhy Ave then turn left on River Rd to come back south. I drove in to the office building parking lot at the address the last cell ping came from and noticed the back parking lot backs directly up to I294.

I also observed light traffic however there were at least a few cars around at all times. I drove around the nearby forest preserve and find it highly unlikely his car left the road and crashed somewhere. I drove by Arrowhead Lake as well and didn't even see it with trees around. Maybe I would in daylight. I find it impossible as well that he drove his car in to the lake. The forest preserves are gated or roped off. A few hung low to the ground and you might be able to drive over but I find that unlikely as well.

I'm speculating that he is voluntarily missing or he stopped somewhere then ran in to foul play later in the evening when his cell phone pinged. I think the Casino is possible angle to consider. It's only a half mile south of the last cell ping location on River Rd. Maybe he saw the casino as he approached Touhy Ave and decided to exit and drive down River Rd to the casino. Maybe he ran in to foul play in the parking lot after a night of gambling? You can not have a gambling problem and still visit a casino once in a while. Or maybe he stopped for dinner or a drink somewhere then ran in to foul play.

Another interesting note is the only way you can exit at Touhy Ave off I294 North is by keeping to the far right of the toll plaza where there is mostly manual toll booths and one Ipass lane. It would be helpful to know if the LE knows which route he took? Did he stay to far left and pass through where all the Ipass lanes are, where you don't slow down, or was he to the right where he would be able to exit at Touhy. Even if he stayed to the right I believe he could have continued back on to I294.

Has anyone established what the employer discussed with him at the time he passsed the toll plaza? If it wasn't a positive topic maybe he snapped and said F it I'm stopping for a drink or going to the casino or leaving town?
Not sure if any of this helps, my curiosity got to me. This is really a mystery. I hope he is found.
Awesome trenchmouth! Thanks to you also for helping search! I'm sure Nick's family really appreciates it! Thanks for caring!

I don't remember men being reported missing as quickly as they are now.
The family would wait a day or so see if he turned up maybe called the cops to see if there was an accident or called the hospitals,,, but today BAM there they are on the TV front page of the newspaper, all over FB and good lordy WEBSLEUTHS lol

What if some of these men had GF's or got snockered and ended up in a strange situation and are now way to ashamed and humiliated to show their face. Its no longer a family situation to be dealt with the entire universe knows! So instead of hubby and wifey sorting it out it ends up like this!

    Just a thought!

    BY DAVID KRAVETS09.20.118:04 PM

Navigation-and-emergency-services company OnStar is notifying its six million account holders that it will keep a complete accounting of the speed and location of OnStar-equipped vehicles, even for drivers who discontinue monthly service.

Don't u have to agree to that?

How to disable On star lol

OnStar offers services such as emergency crash response, navigation, hands-free calling and stolen vehicle recovery assistance. While OnStar is a built-in safety feature for some vehicles, there is a monitoring fee for the services offered. Even after the service has been discontinued, OnStar is still able to track your vehicle's location through a Global Positioning System (GPS). If you are uncomfortable with the tracking of your vehicle by OnStar, you can disable the GPS completely. Some people choose this option to maintain privacy while driving
