WICHITA, Kansas — A 14-year-old Kansas boy was charged on Friday with murdering his mother and younger sister by deliberately setting fire to the family home in Hutchinson, authorities said.

Sam Vonachen faces two counts of first-degree murder and a charge of aggravated arson in the deaths of his mother and sister, said Reno County District Attorney Keith Schroeder. He is also charged with attempted first-degree murder of his father, Steven Vonachen, who escaped the blaze.........

Authorities said they had not yet determined the motive for the crime.

I'd say the motive is that he's a psychopath.

His poor family ... and now his father, who has lost everyone & everything, will probably have to testify against his own son in court.

The Reno County District Attorney wants to try a 14-year-old boy as an adult for the deaths of his mom and sister.

Sam Vonachen was formally charged Friday with two counts of first degree murder, one count of attempted first degree murder and aggravated arson.

Reno County District Attorney Keith Schroeder says an accelerant was poured around several rooms on the first floor of the house and ignited.

Authorities had initially said the boy also escaped the fire that engulfed the two-story house early Thursday. But Schroeder later said the youth was not at the scene when firefighters arrived but returned to the house hours later.

Prosecutor: Hutchinson teen confessed to setting deadly fire

(HUTCHINSON, Kan.) — His own father is afraid of him and he's shown no signs remorse, those are just some of the reason prosecutors want to try a 14-year-old Hutchinson boy as an adult in the deaths of his mother and sister.

The motion filed in court by the Reno County District Attorney draws a picture of a young man who prosecutors say deliberately tried to kill his entire family and feels he did nothing wrong. It describes Sam Vonachen as someone who saw himself as smarter than everyone else and didn't value anyone's life but his own.

Investigators say Vonachen started the fire that killed his mother and sister Karla and Audrey last month.

I hope that someday there is a fix for this ... a brain tweak, a chemical reconfiguration, a genetic repair ... some cure for these people with horrific inner demons that we don't comprehend.

A personality transplant?!

OK, I know that's bad, but that's how I feel. There are newspaper articles starting last Thursday thru today about the trial at Salina Post.com.
