DE DE - Doris Wood, 42, Newark, 28 July 1997

Yesterday or a couple days before, I saw a story on the Lexington news about someone finding a bag of human bones in the storage unit they'd just rented. I figured it was going to be ancient and/or medical in nature.

Now they've updated to say that they think they know who the bones belong to... Plus how she wound up in the storage unit far away. And why no one will pay for her death.

Doris Anne Wood of Newark, DE. She went missing 7/28/1997.

Apparently, the cops suspected her husband around the time of her disappearance but had no evidence that he'd done anything.

Well, the reason the people had this storage unit available was because the previous renter had died in 5/2013. It was Doris' husband, who had family in KY.

They haven't confirmed anything but it seems very, very likely.

** This case has special interest from me. I didn't know it until I'd read a few of the stories about this that she was actually from Newark. I was conceived in Newark and born in Lexington. She went missing a couple months after I'd graduated high school and became an official "adult."

“A guy worked for me a little while his wife disappeared. Everyone thought he killed her,” the caller [Terry] is heard telling a 911 dispatcher in tapes obtained by WKYT.

The caller says that man supposedly died and the storage unit was sold to Terry. And his purchase may have helped crack a 16 year old cold case

It's always good to hear about another cold case solved. Very sad, though.

I always wonder how many bodies are hidden in storage units.

This story actually shows some of the bones that were found and a few different details. They may have been in some of the stories, but I could have skipped over them.

He moved from Kentucky to Alabama in 2004, but continued to pay rent on the unit. The bones were in three small yellow grocery bags. He could have easily buried them, or disposed of them in some other manner. I guess it was his twisted way of leaving answers behind for the family. It would have been kinder to bury her and leave a map.

This gave him more of a thrill... to think that after he eventually stopped paying and someone went into the unit, they would find the bones. Then they'd call the cops. Then, the family who suspected he was a worthless murderer all along would be told and there wouldn't be one thing they could do to him.

Oh, Mail claims dude BURIED them and then DUG THEM UP and put them in storage as there was dirt in the bags. Which, I believe looking at the photos. SICK!

Oh, you're right! I scrolled over that part the first time. So I guess when he left Kentucky, he wanted to take "his wife" with him, like the rest of his possessions. Sick.

He could have been being super-cautious or super-sick. The fact that he kept up with where she was can point to either.

He could have kept the remains in a "possessive" sort of way, or it could have been in a "hide the evidence" way.

I think the fact that he kept paying for the storage unit could point to either.

Coroner confirms identity of remains found in Corbin storage unit

According to a release from the Whitley County coroner, the remains were identified by using the National Missing and Unidentified Person System, known as NamUs.

The records revealed that the remains belonged to Doris Anne Wood. Mrs. Wood has been missing from Delaware since 1997.

This happened very close to me. All the local news agencies covered it. Hubby always wanted to do the storage wars thing. I asked him what he would do, if he found a body in one. Needless to say, after this aired, he no longer has a desire to buy bids on storage lockers.
