The body of an unidentified man was found Tuesday night in the woods near Interstate 75 and State Road 50.
The man is thought to be in his 60s, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office. There were no signs of foul play, Deputy Donna Black said. Deputies secured the scene until detectives from the major crimes and forensic units began their investigation Wednesday morning.
The man was wearing blue jeans and a long-sleeved brown polo shirt. He carried no identification, Black said.
"It is a rare occurrence to find a deceased person in a wooded area," Black said.
The man had Chinese letters tattooed on the middle finger of his right hand. Authorities also noticed a jailhouse tattoo in the web of the left hand, between his thumb and index finger. Because of the condition of his body, authorities could not identify the tattoos on the man's chest and forearm, Black said.
