    Oct 15, 2013 / 10:56 am

The oarfish, which can grow to more than 50 feet (15 metres), is a deep-water pelagic fish — the longest bony fish in the world, according to CIMI.

They are likely responsible for sea serpent legends throughout history.

I read 15 washed up before the large earthquake and tsunami. My question is how often do they normally wash ashore in years without quakes?

Wow. That's an odd coincidence. The guy quoted in the article says its possible that something triggers these appearances before earthquakes, but that no one has studied it so theres no real evidence. I'd love to see a study done. I bet there is something, perhaps these deep sea creatures feel deep tremors down there before one happens on the surface?

I have not been in the ocean since 1975, other then to splash water on me. I saw JAWS. The thing is I read that this oarfish grows to 50 feet, so these are small in comparison. That to me is the scary part, their the babies.
It's my opinion if no link provided.

I don't think I would have have been brave enough to swim 30 feet down and drag the thing out of the ocean!
