HER mouth covered and body restrained by her "possessive, domineering and abusive" fiance and alleged killer, the *final moment of Lisa Harnum's life was captured by a security camera he had installed in their apartment.
The opening day of Simon Gittany's murder trial yesterday heard that, 69 seconds after the Canadian was dragged back inside apartment 1503 of the prestigious Hyde Building in Sydney's CBD, she plummeted to her death.

I hope the title of this topic is OK, mods feel free to change as needed, just thought I would need to careful as the circumstance of her death is being disputed by the accused in the current trial.

Accused forced fiancee to 'submit to his will', court told

The court heard that as Mr Gittany became more possessive, he convinced the younger woman to completely change her style of dress, convert to Catholicism and to leave her job at a hairdressing salon because the staff there were ''polluting her mind''.

He then allegedly estranged her from her friends, and would demand to know where she was at all times.

''He convinced the deceased that he was a person of superior moral and religious depth,'' Mr Tedeschi said. ''As a female it was her function in life to submit to his will as the male in their relationship.

''The deceased's self-confidence became more and more diminished as she became convinced that the accused was a person of superior moral integrity to herself.''

I hope this monster is locked up for the rest of his miserable life.

"Another witness walking near The Hyde apartment block on Liverpool Street told police he saw a shirtless man holding what appeared to be black luggage horizontally over the balcony before it fell over.

"Of course, it was not a piece of luggage, it was Ms Harnum wearing black clothing," Crown prosecutor Mark Tedeschi QC said at Monday's opening of the murder trial."

Man accused of murdering ballerina fiancee avoids jury trial

18 Oct, 2013

"Alleged murderer Simon Gittany has run out of money to fund his high-profile defence, telling a court he is at risk of having to represent himself.

The legal bill for the 39-year-old, who denies throwing his ballerina fiancee Lisa Harnum off the balcony of their Hyde Park apartment, is set to approach $500,000 despite him dropping one senior counsel.

He was a granted a judge-alone trial, to begin on Monday, because it would be two weeks shorter than a trial by jury, allowing him to save money on legal representation by solicitor Abigail Bannister.

Mr Gittany has been refused legal aid because he doesn't meet the requirements."

Excerpt from a Jan. 15, 2013 article

Jan. 15, 2013

At Mr Gittany's committal hearing on Tuesday, witness Josh Rathmell said he was walking through Hyde Park that morning when he heard screaming and looked up at the apartment building.

"The best way I could [describe the screaming] would be emotional and deranged," Mr Rathmell told Downing Centre Local Court, via audio-visual link from New York.

"I believed it to be a male voice. It was deranged, it was incomprehensible."

Mr Rathmell said when he looked up at the building he saw a man throw a black object over the balcony.

"I saw a white male, I believe he had his shirt off, and my very first impression was this white male ... [had] something I could only guess at the time to be a black duffle bag or luggage.

"I believe I saw him in a rapid movement unload and move back."

He said the "unloading" motion and the man returning to the apartment was "one swift movement".

Chyeah.. I was looking the new girlfriend's picture last night, thinking exactly the same thing - and wondering how she can think he'll be any different toward her...

I think he murdered Lisa, hands down guilty, and I also think he somehow thinks he's going to get away with it.

Seriously, if this guy doesn't do life in jail, I'm emigrating to somewhere with a better grip on the concept of justice.
