Mom of missing Spokane man assuming the worst

Detectives are investigating the disappearance of a Spokane man. The case is now being classified as a homicide/missing person.

No one has heard from Mark Broadwater, 32, since April.

[snip]

A tipster came forward saying he received a text which said "the body is buried what do I do next." The recipient had no tie to the case and did not recognize the number. Detectives believe it could be tied to the Broadwater case because it was sent the same time Broadwater disappeared. They are searching records to see who the number belongs to.

I was wondering why the mom felt right away that something bad had happened to him when he didn't show for a lunch date, but sounds like drugs were a known factor.

On another note, wouldn't that be the world biggest "oh sh**" moment, when you realize you've just texted to the wrong number that you just finished burying the body.

Spokane News on FB reporting a body found in the river. Can't find news reports yet though.

I see that too, from KXLY FB page:

"Spokane County Sheriff's Office is investigating the discovery of a male body in the Spokane River near the Minnehaha climbing rocks Friday afternoon. The body is of a male, not a child, and was found around 3 p.m. There are no obvious signs of trauma, investigators say. The body has been recovered and turned over to the medical examiner for an autopsy to determine the person's identity and cause of death."

ETA, should have checked "Spokane News" first.

Spokane News was first to bring you this Breaking News. One male body found floating in the river "Sheriff Department and Medical Units on scene along the river of a body found. More details as the come in." Major Crimes Detective advised SN one male body was floating in the water. Divers collected the body and now the Medical Examiner has him. Details are limited at this time. We were advised it did not "appear" the body was in the river for a long period of time and at this time the location of were the body entered the water is unknown. We were told the body was floating about 20 feet from shore and a passerby on the trail called it in. We will bring you the updates as they come in.

I don't think it sounds like him, this sounds like a drowning.

A body found in the Coeur d’Alene National Forest on in May was that of Mark Broadwater, 32, according to family member.

The Spokane man vanished in April 2013.

His body was found about 15 feet off Fernan Lake Road in thick weeds and bushes. Law enforcement confirmed that the male’s body was linked to a missing person’s case out of Spokane. A tip helped authorities find the body. Authorities believe the body has been there for a while.
