RI - Alfred Brissette, thrill killer, released on parole

R.I. man called ‘thrill killer’ released on parole

Alfred A. Brissette Jr., who spent 14-plus years in prison out of what was a 35-year prison sentence for his role in the 1999 beating death of a Woonsocket woman, was released on parole Tuesday, a year after he was originally set to be freed.

Brissette, who pleaded no contest to second-degree murder, was sentenced in 2004 to prison for conspiring with another man, Marc Girard, to kill and bury Jeannette Descoteaux, 38, in what one Rhode Island Supreme Court justice called a “brutal, barbaric and utterly senseless thrill kill.”

What the heck???? Only 14 years for murder. Crazy.

Some states have 'good time off' for good behavior. I don't agree with it when it comes to a violent crime. Below is a quote from the article:

Separate from and unrelated to the Parole Board’s decision, Brissette and other inmates have been able under law to receive credit for good behavior and have days taken off the end of their sentences. A Department of Corrections spokeswoman said that Brissette had accumulated 710 days of “good time” and lost seven days of good time. That time does not count toward when an inmate first comes up for parole eligibility or toward parole itself.
