A judge on Monday upheld the 25-year prison sentence a jury recommended in October for a Stafford County man’s role in the slaying of Fredericksburg resident Rodney Beanum.

Wesley Carlton Smith, 24, is one of four men now serving prison terms for their participation in a robbery during which Beanum was shot numerous times in the back of the head while lying face down in the middle of Howard Avenue...

Diontae Washington and Lorenzo Jones, fingered Smith as Beanum’s killer. But no one was convicted of murder. Washington and Jones got eight years to serve in exchange for their testimony. The fourth defendant, John Pegram, is serving an 11-year sentence.
