IT was during his routine walk to work that Joshua Rathmell looked up and became the crucial witness in the crime that stopped Sydney.

So important was his evidence that every precaution was taken to ensure the 31-year-old felt safe.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal Mr Rathmell was escorted into court by three police officers - one beside him and the others in front and behind - as he made the short walk from a car parked outside into the court. He was the only witness for whom such protection was given.

Just finished reading the entirety of the verdict .... wow, what a read! Very long, but very complete and enlightening.

The best information written in the verdict? Definitely the last sentence ...

I find the accused guilty of the murder of Lisa Cecilia Harnum.

RIP Lisa.

Gee whiz, I didn't know karma worked that quickly!

Ear-biter, drug dealer - Simon Gittany's brutal past revealed

In 2001, he was back before the Sydney District Court - this time for being involved in the supply of cocaine. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to weekend and home detention.

He is the director of the mysteriously named Shecandy P/L. What the company does or how it earns its money is not listed anywhere. Gittany was also a co-*director of Chemright Pty Ltd, which has since been deregistered. The convicted murderer is now director of Health Direct, apparently selling health supplements by mail order.

SIMON Gittany, who was yesterday found guilty of killing his fiancee Lisa Harnum, is the target of a new police investigation over business dealings he conducted with two methylamphetamine producers while defending the murder charge. The Australian can now reveal the NSW drugs squad is investigating a series of suspicious payments between Gittany, who is also a convicted drug dealer, and Jamie Shaun Hijniakoff, 25, and British-born Christopher Stephen Jacques, 38 who have pleaded guilty to producing meth in a secret laboratory northwest of Sydney in 2011. - See more at:

Gee whiz I am still reeling from today's momentous events. And to top it off, after (what appears) a contempt of court episode which included loud screaming, RL, an actress demanded of the surrounding reporters ...... (looking around furtively before the next bit of theatrics ... as she remembers the all important matters for those cameras) A LIGHTER, a lighter (more demanding) A LIGHTER !! (For those who came in late ... a cigarette lighter.)

What a relief! Justice has been served! I confess to being worried that it wouldn't be. May you rest in peace dear Lisa. By your Mother's dignified and gracious conduct, it is obvious that you were raised to be a decent person, who for some unknown reason, got caught up in a web of evil. I can't say the same about RL.....she and SG deserve each other....RIP.

Ah, now it all comes out. Marly that link is behind a paywall.

Simon Gittany went from unemployed petty criminal who bit policeman's ear to a business high-flyer

November 28, 2013

He bit the ear of Detective Senior Constable Keith Bristow, severing it, and also attacked Constable David Burgess. Documents before the court at the time said Gittany's mother also attacked Constable Burgess.
In July that year Gittany pleaded guilty to maliciously wounding the officer and to receiving stolen goods. He was sentenced to 2½ years' jail.

In 2000, Gittany was in trouble again - this time in relation to drugs supply charges. He was found guilty in the NSW District Court and sentenced to three years' periodic detention until August 2004.

In more recent times, Gittany had been involved in more honest pursuits.

He had moved with his fiancee Lisa Harnum into a 15th-floor apartment in the luxury Hyde apartment block in the heart of Sydney's CBD.

He had also started a women's shoe importation business, which ran the website ShoeCandy. It shipped shoes from the US and the website posted provocative photos of female models.

Gittany's brutal past revealed

Ear-biter, drug dealer - murderer Simon Gittany's brutal past revealed

SIMON Gittany's past can now be revealed, exposing him as a , a coward and a drug dealer.

His criminal record shows he is a violent man who has been jailed for biting off part of a policeman's ear, punching a man while he was being held down by others, receiving stolen property and peddling cocaine. How he supported his flashy lifestyle of expensive suits and a $1000-a-week city apartment also was never explained in court.

(Might be able to read freely more on this by morning.)

Underneath the urbane charm of Simon Gittany beat the heart of a cruel beast

THE Simon Gittany you saw in court was a far cry from the rage-filled monster seen on CCTV footage clamping his hand over his screaming girlfriend's mouth and dragging her inside their apartment.
A far cry from the cold killer who threw Lisa Harnum off the balcony of their 15th floor CBD apartment in 2011, then fist-pumped the air as she hit the ground.

No, the Simon Gittany you saw in the dock of Darlinghurst Court 2 during his trial for Harnum's murder was an entirely different creature.

Half way through reading the summation. The judge must have worked 24/7 to complete it. So far she has ensured there can be no grounds for appeal. She seems to have covered it for any eventuality.
Hoping that Lisa was unconscious at the time she was "unloaded". Can't imagine the terror she would have experienced if she was conscious. Not surprised that he has a history. It is being reported in Melbourne today on radio and on t.v. last night. First it had been mentioned down here.
Feeling for Lisa's family having to make the long trip back to Canada without their beloved daughter. It will never be over for them. Justice has prevailed and I hope it is very long sentence. Thanks to all who kept me informed here yesterday. It was an amazing job well done. It felt llke I was actually in the court room
