Police as well as family appear to believe that the vehicle was stolen and dumped, not driven there by Mary.

I think that car thief may have had no idea he/she was stealing the vehicle of a missing, elderly lady, and that they are probably the only people in the world now who know where she got out of her car.

As this is undoubtedly a matter of life and death and there simply is no time, I wish the local DA would very publically offer immunity from prosecution over the car theft, in return for information about where it was stolen.

As the area is known as a dumping ground for stolen vehicles, I bet LE have a pretty good idea where the people live who dump those vehicles there. Within walking distance perhaps?

I hope there is a way LE can put the word out that they are just looking for the location where the vehicle was stolen, and why.

I'm confused now. This article now says police think Mary walked away from the vehicle and was picked up by another one, but previously they said that footprints leading from the vehicle were not Mary's.

All searches are being carried out in the vicinity of her car, but if she didn't drive it there that doesn't make much sense. I really hope LE don't think there is any chance of foul play here. If someone just stole her vehicle, I can't believe they wouldn't have had the decency to at least call in an anonymous tip about where they stole it from.

I am afraid things look very, very bleak for any chances that Mary will be found alive now.

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. - 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)

We are all one poor choice from being a subject on this forum. Think twice.

I'm so sorry to hear this. All my sympathy to Mary's loved ones. Rest in Peace, Mary.

Thank you to all the authorities, and the Search and Rescue workers, and their dogs and horses, who brought Mary home.

I see police in this article are saying there are still some unanswered questions. I really, really hope there is nothing more discovered that will add to the heartbreak of Mary's family.

Mary's family are thanking all those who helped with the search but are questioning communications between different authorities. Especially a 911 call they say came in on the day Mary disappeared. They are certain there was no foul play, although the sheriff's office is saying they haven't been able to confirm whose footprints led away from the car.

Mary was found within a mile of the vehicle, but it took a week of searching to find her. I think this demonstrates the huge difficulties in finding people lost in natural terrain, who may be too confused to be seeking help. I wish the use of gps shoes was more widespread; they seem the least likely object for a person with dementia to remove, unlike watches, necklaces etc.

Her erratic driving is believed to have even prompted a 911 call, but a Southern Arizona woman died in the desert before authorities found her. Now, questionable judgment calls are being made after a driver dialed 911 on Sunland Gin Road in Pinal County near the desert where Alzheimer's sufferer Mary Black's SUV was found, and she died...

Pinal County Sheriff's Office responded with this statement: "A citizen had called in the vehicle as being driven recklessly. PCSO dispatch sent a deputy to try to locate the vehicle but he couldn't find it. Hours later after Cochise County entered the vehicle into NCIC they received a delayed response indicating the plate had been ran by our office. When Cochise called to inquire a dispatcher told them it had been a sound alike plate, not the same plate. We are looking into how this error occurred."
