22 year old U.S. Army Specialist Mason Van Kuiken has been missing since March 17, 2013. Stationed at Ft. Carson, Colorado, he left the base without permission and was headed to Fort Hood, Texas to visit a friend when he had three days off.

As Mason was headed back to Colorado, a deputy from Texas pulled him over in the small town of Goldthwaite, Texas on March 15. According to the officer, weapons were found in the car that did not have permits, so Mason was arrested and his car impounded.

After getting out of jail on March 17, a bail boundsman took Mason to a motel located in Early, Texas. The next morning the bondsman picked him up so he could go to the Wells Fargo bank to withdraw bond money. Mason was then taken to a bus station in San Angelo, Texas, where he was last seen purchasing a ticket to Abilene, Texas so he could return to Colorado Springs.

Something of note here....apparently Mason's family was told that the missing soldier was on a watch for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. An expert on PTSD states that a soldier will take off and disappear without a trace and it is called “ghosting".

He has not been seen since.

I am going to have to follow up on this one. I am from this area and these towns and that story DO NOT make a bit of sense. That scenario of going from town to town makes no sense at all.

Well I stand corrected. Going to Early from Goldthwaite is acceptable, but why drive to San Angelo to get a bus to go to Abilene, when you can get to Abilene just as fast from Brownwood/Early?

MapQuest shows the following:
Early to Abilene:
US-84 E 83.99 miles
1 hour 29 mins / 1 hour 33 mins based on current traffic

Early to San Angelo:
Via US-67 N 98.36 miles

1 hour 41 mins / 1 hour 44 mins based on current traffic

22 year old Mason Van Kuiken has been missing since March 17, 2013 from San Angelo TX

32 year old Clay Allan Rodman has been missing since on or about May 1, 2013 from Abilene, TX

26 year old Brandon Lawson has been missing since August 8, 2013 from San Angelo, TX

I wonder if these three cases are somehow related? Young men do not go missing like this from this area. yet, we hear almost nothing from the media about these 3 cases. I would not know anything about them if it were not for Websleuth's

I agree. I've been following Brandon's case...so I know San Angelo is not far from Abilene...and Brandon mentions Abilene in his 911 call...yet so little from LE in all these cases...what the heck is going on there?

I wonder why Mason was not allowed to drive back to Colorado?

Where is the vehicle/guns?

Was it searched/processed?

Who did it belong to?

I wondered the same thing. The only common piece in these three cases is a bail bondsman. Certainly not the same one I don't think, but all three had been arrested. These are good questions. Also, why drive him to San Angelo to catch a bus to Abilene to get to Colorado? Abilene is closer to Brownwood than San Angelo. That part just does not make sense to me.

Is it public record if one wanted to find out who the bail bondsmen were for these 3 cases? If all were arrested and had outstanding debt to a less than upstanding individual (hypothetical), could they have worth elsewhere? MV had some marketable skills if he fell into say a trafficking scenario...Weapons modificaiton, he worked as an armorer and translator overseas...marketable traits for a bad market. Just thoughts. Maybe these men looked to the wrong help in their legal matters and fell victim to predators...

Forgive me for not introducing myself, I am the brother of Mason VanKuiken. While Mason has been missing for a little over a year now, I just stumbled upon this community only last night. It brought me to tears last night as I realized that there ARE still people talking about my brother and he hasn't been forgotten. Our family is out of ideas at this point after trying to get assistance from the army and local LE, and are now considering where to go next...PI, Try for national TV interview, IDK. If there are any questions I can answer, I would be more than happy to provide all the info I can; love to hear what the sleuthers have to say, and I cannot thank you all enough for your selfless time and effort.
