2 men arrest sex assault teen
Two men have been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old they met separately in an Internet chat room.
On April 15 a 14-year-old Gilbert girl was reported as missing by her mother. On April 16 the girl was located by her mother by telephone and her parents responded to a Gilbert park where they picked her up. She told her parents she had been with a man she met on the Internet. Police learned that the man, 26-year-old Jeffery Turner flew into Phoenix from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Investigation revealed that Turner allegedly had sexual contact with the victim during a previous visit on February 25.
On April 17 Jeffery Turner was arrested at Sky Harbor Airport as he was attempting to leave Arizona. Turner was booked into the Maricopa county jail on one count of Sexual Conduct With a Minor and one count of Sexual Abuse.
During the initial interview of the 14-year-old female victim she advised police that she had allegedly been sexually assaulted on April 5 by a different man whom she had also met on an Internet chat room. This man contacted the girl at a location in Gilbert and sexually assaulted her. The man continued to contact the 14-year-old Gilbert girl by phone and text messaging following the assault. Police detectives identified the man as 29-year-old Eric DeGroot of Chandler. The next time the suspect initiated contact with the girl online the police arranged a meeting. On April 27 Gilbert police detectives arrested Eric DeGroot when he arrived at the meeting place.
Eric DeGroot was arrested and booked into jail on the following charges: three counts of Luring a Minor for Sexual Exploitation, one count of Sexual Assault, two counts of Child Molestation and two counts of Sexual Conduct with a Minor.

Update on case
This is very confusing as there are two different guys targeting one girl.
But in the case of the 14-year-old Gilbert girl, it seems clear that she knew with whom she was dealing.
The girl said she agreed to have sex again April 7 with DeGroot after he agreed to stop messaging her if she complied, the report states.
He then requested they meet for more sex, it states.
Police investigators and the girl's parents eventually used instant messages to lure DeGroot to the house by posing as the girl. He took the bait, and was arrested by Gilbert police, the report states.
Police say they learned of DeGroot's actions when interviewing the girl April 16 about sexual contact she had with Turner in late February at an East Valley motel.
Turner, who lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba, arranged to meet with the girl at her junior high school after extensive planning, the report states. He attended a band function at her school and two days later spent the night with her at the lodge, where they did not have intercourse but engaged in intimate activity, the report states.
