A Taylor man in court on Tuesday for the death of his 6-week-old daughter seemed to take responsibility, even after entering a not guilty plea.

"I made a mistake. I made a big mistake," Luis Smolen said.

Taylor — A father has been charged in connection with the death of his infant daughter who was found not breathing in the family’s home over the weekend.

Luis Marcos Smolen, 23, was arraigned Tuesday in 23rd District Court on charges of first-degree felony murder, which carries a sentence of life in prison without parole and first-degree child abuse, which carries a 20-year sentence, says a news release issued Tuesday from Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy’s office...
