Mansion party-burglary arrests: Teens posted photos of loot online

LA HABRA HEIGHTS, Calif. (KABC) -- Arrests have been made in connection to a mansion takeover and burglary that resulted in more than $1 million in damage in La Habra Heights.

"This is one of the most serious juvenile and adult crimes that we have come across," said Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca.

Neighbors told Eyewitness News they heard music and saw cars parked up and down Chota Road. But they say it was not unusual for the 9,000-square-foot mansion, which is listed for sale.

It is owned by Nick Radoi, a businessman who made the news last September when his yacht struck Balboa Pier.

Radoi was in Europe when scores of teenagers learned through tweets about a surreptitious event at his La Habra Heights property.

Teens Allegedly Break Into Mansion; Stuffed Leopard Among $1M in Loot

After the owner of a multimillion-dollar home went out of town, high-school students in the area noticed the house was empty and announced a party in the backyard on Twitter, Lt. Arthur Scott of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Industry Station said Wednesday.

During the party, the teens broke into the home, which Scott described as “fabulous” and a “mansion,” trashing the property. The party took place without the homeowner’s knowledge, he said.

“They just had a free-for-all once the place was broken into,” Scott said. “Once entry was made, it was like, ‘Oh, this is fun.’”

I'm wondering why the magnate didn't have any security for this fabulous home?

HOUSE OF THE DAY
LA HABRA HEIGHTS, CALIF.
Ludicrously Overdone Party Palace Has Price Slashed by 66%
Tuesday, April 30, 2013, by Rob Bear

Location: La Habra Heights, Calif.

Price: $6,995,000

The Skinny: As of September 2010, this decadent 9,000-square-foot villa in the obscure Los Angeles suburb of La Habra Heights was asking an astonishing $21M. After two long years on the market, the property was divided and the price chopped all the way down to $7M. Worse yet, it still has yet to sell.

Why? Well, aside from the initial outrageous asking price, the place has some explaining to do when it comes to the oddball decor and beyond-unique features, like a fountain in the swimming pool, a Playboy Mansion-esque grotto, garish lighting, knockoff frescos, a bizarre master suite, and a basement casino stocked with slot machines. All of these extravagances were installed by the owner, the Romanian-born "trucking magnate" Nick Radoi, who hosted (and videotaped) an extravagant party at the mansion. The (probably NSFW) video features scantily-clad young women, cigar-chomping aging men, and plenty of techno beats.

I can't help but wonder if "trucking magnate" isn't a euphemism for some other line of activity, especially now that I see he is from Romania and apparently travels alot. I have to add that I detest that he has a 'stuffed snow leopard' and I think his taste level is stomach turning.

Well, now I'm questioning the estimated $1M in loss.

hmmmm

this also happened to a former pro football player ... the thread is on WS somewhere

I love that house. Aside from the stuffed snow leopard, I like most of the decor. The frescoes are pretty and the grotto is stunning. I would essentially live in that library. I don't find it garish - just rich and elaborate.

I'd like to see the pictures of the house from after the party. That is a lot of damage unless they did something destructive to the interior of the home.

The million isn't just damages, they stole a bunch of stuff too. That leopard was worth $250K alone. They stole a bunch of Armani suits and other items too. I believe one of the above links showed a photo of some of the retrieved items.

BBM - yeah, the guy seems fishy besides his really bad tastes. And, it's just stupid to put videos of your house parties on youtube.
