The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office found the cellphone of a Bluffton woman who has been missing since Sunday. 47-year-old Margarita Gonzalez-Almazan was last seen at a family party she hosted the evening of Nov. 30.

Deputies said they are looking for her boyfriend, whose car was found abandoned last week in Savannah, Ga. On Dec. 2, deputies tracked his cellphone to a bridge in Beaufort County but a search of the water and beaches found no other evidence.

Anyone with information about Escobedo can contact the BCSO or call Crimestoppers at 1.888.CRIME.SC.

So her boyfriend is missing, too?

So her boyfriend is missing, too?

Well, I don't know if I would label him as missing so much, but the feeling that I get from reading the articles, is that his disappearance is more of a POI disappearance, and I'm sure all of you can read between the lines there. :)

This is from Dec 20, 2013. It specifically names him as a POI.

There have been no new developments in the case of a Bluffton woman who went missing three weeks ago, her daughter Dayra Manrique said Friday.

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office has said it suspects foul play in the disappearance of 47-year-old Margarita Gonzalez-Almazan, last seen Nov. 30 in Bluffton. Deputies named her boyfriend, 40-year-old Osman Galicia-Escobedo, a person of interest after Savannah authorities found his car abandoned near Keller's Flea Market on the city's west side.

Eight months after she was reported missing, there has been no sign of Gonzalez-Almazan, 47, or her boyfriend, Osman Galicia-Escobedo, 41, who is sought for questioning, investigators say.

Investigators interviewed his 36-year-old brother the week after the disappearance and found him cooperative. He left for Guatemala on Dec. 6 and has not been contacted since, Capt. Bob Bromage said Friday. Deputies have also contacted immigration officials in Charleston and the FBI, which is coordinating investigative activities in Guatemala, Bromage said. The Sheriff's Office believes Galicia-Escobedo is still in the United States. However, investigators cannot issue an arrest warrant without more information and proof of a crime...

Deputies know Galicia-Escobedo -- who they say cleaned out his room in a Simmons Cay apartment the night before Gonzalez-Almazan disappeared -- stayed overnight in Savannah with two acquaintances the night of Dec. 1. Gonzalez-Almazan was not with him, the two friends and two other witnesses said.

On 12-01-2013, Margarita Gonzalez-Almazan (47-years-old) was reported missing from her Bluffton residence by family members following a dispute she had with her boyfriend, 40-year-old Osman Galicia-Escobedo. Signs of a struggle were observed in the residence and her mobile telephone was found on the side of the road off of Highway 170 in the vicinity of the Lemon Island Bridge. In addition, Escobedo and Almazan’s vehicles were also missing. Quickly, it was becoming apparent Almazan met with some sort of foul play at the hands of her boyfriend. His last known whereabouts was on the South Side of Savannah, where witnesses confirmed they saw him several hours after Almazan’s disappeared. The same witnesses observed what appeared to be fingernail scratches on the side of Escobedo’s face. Witnesses advised Escobedo was trying to flee the country, as he purchased a ticket at the Savannah Airport to Guatemala. Oddly, Escobedo never showed up for the flight. Several days later, Almazan’s vehicle was located abandoned outside of the Keller Flea Market in Savannah. The location of her vehicle was within a few miles of where witnesses last saw Escobedo. It was processed for forensic evidence, but did not reveal any clues to the whereabouts of Almazan or Escobedo.

Federal authorities were contacted to attempt to locate Escobedo in Guatemala. This attempt met with no success.

Margarita went missing one year ago today.

Investigators are hoping that a cold case committee could help break this case wide open. Capt. Bob Bromage met with the cold case committee comprised of 13 people, with medical, law, and law enforcement backgrounds. “The extra set of eyes, especially an experienced set of eyes gives us other ideas, other avenues to follow up on,” Bromage said.

Alamazan went missing in December of 2013 after she and her boyfriend had an argument. Her boyfriend, Osman Galicia-Escobedo, was seen after her disappearance with scratches on his face, then he vanished.

“He is either in Guatemala or he still could be in the United States,” Bromage said. “We've got international law enforcement agencies looking into this, and we've also got the federal and state and local law enforcement here looking for him as well. We're definitely looking for information and again, the person of interest, Osman Galcia-Escobedo, we need to talk to him,” Bromage said.

Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office are seeking the public's help to solve the disappearance of a Bluffton woman two years ago.

Margarita Gonzalez-Almazan, 47, was reported missing from her Bluffton residence by family members following a dispute she had with her boyfriend, 40-year-old Osman Galicia-Escobedo, Dec. 1, 2013, according to a news release from the Sheriff's Office.

Deputies say they saw signs of a struggle inside the home and her cell phone was found on the side of the road off of Highway 170 near the Lemon Island Bridge. Escobedo and Almazan’s cars were also missing.

Witnesses say Escobedo may have been trying to leave the country, as he bought a ticket to Guatemala at the Savannah Airport, but never showed up for his flight.

Several days later, Almazan’s car was seen abandoned outside of the Keller Flea Market in Savannah. The location was within a few miles of where witnesses reported last seeing Escobedo.

Federal authorities attempted to contact Escobedo in Guatemala but had no success.

Details of Disappearance
Gonzalez-Almazan was last seen at her home in Bluffton, South Carolina at 3:00 a.m. on December 1, 2013. She disappeared after attending a birthday party for her grandson. Her daughter heard her say to her boyfriend, Osman Galicia-Escobedo, "What is my granddaughter going to do when I leave you?" Galicia-Escobedo, who had been drinking, started to cry.

A few hours later, relatives went to Gonzalez-Almazan's apartment and found it deserted. There were two plates of unfinished food in the kitchen, and the television remote had been smashed. Gonzalez-Almazan has never been heard from again. Her cellular phone turned up on the roadside off Highway 170, near the Lemon Island Bridge over the Chechessee River. Her 2001 Dodge Stratus was found several days later, outside of the Keller Flea Market in Savannah, Georgia.

Photos of Galicia-Escobedo are posted with this case summary. He was sighted in south Savannah several hours after Gonzalez-Almazan disappeared; he spent the night with some acquaintances there. Witnesses said Gonzalez-Almazan wasn't with him, and he had what appeared to be fresh fingernail scratches on the side of his face. The place where he was seen is just a few miles from where Gonzalez-Almazan's car was later located.

Galicia-Escobedo purchased a plane ticket at the Savannah Airport for a flight to his native Guatemala, but never made his flight; he dropped out of sight and hasn't been seen since. He is not listed as a missing person, but authorities have been trying to locate him to question him about his girlfriend's disappearance.

According to Gonzalez-Almazan's family, Galicia-Escobedo was a demanding and sometimes violent partner. Authorities believe she met with foul play at his hands, but no charges had been filed against anyone and her case is unsolved.
