    Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

    "When from a long distant past nothing persists, after the people are dead, after things are broken and scattered, still alone, more persistent, more faithful, the smell and taste of things remain poised a long, long time like souls, ready to remind us, waiting, hoping for their moment amid the ruins of all the rest, and bear unfaltering in the tiny and almost impalpable drop of their essence the vast structure of recollection."

    No details on what area he went missing from or where he was last seen? Where he lives?

    What!! Police had appealed for the public's help to find him but hadn't checked his home???

    This is hardly believable - Donald was found on his bedroom floor, so he wasn't exactly hidden from sight. Just wow.

    Poor, poor man. Missing for several weeks, with a serious medical condition, and no-one bothered to check his home.

    How can someone be missing and the first place checked not be their home?! This is crazy! I wonder if there is more to this?

    From the same article:

    <snipped>
    Birmingham police Sgt. Anthony Williams said Friday that Hopkins was a hoarder, and that it would have been difficult to spot his body on a general search
    <snipped>
    Police had accompanied family members when they looked through the home two weeks ago, but they didn't find Hopkins.

    That makes more sense. Still sad and makes me wonder why the home wasnt searched more thoroughly since they new he might've been in there.

    I still can't believe it. No electricity, don't they have torches? Also they couldn't have searched too hard for foul play. You would expect them to move things around not just peep in and call out. I don't think much of their detecting ability. IMO

    I'm assuming from this article that he lived in East Lake.

    http://blog.al.com/spotnews/2013/12/...ham_belie.html

    I have family from there. They don't live there anymore but still have friends and other family there. So they still have strong ties to the community. When I talk to them, I'll see if they've heard anything, or possibly knew him.
