The first degree murder trial of Bryan W. Hulsey is scheduled to begin on May 12, 2014 in the shooting death of Glendale police officer Anthony Holly (according to the Maricopa County Superior Court Minute Entry). The death penalty is being sought, and Juan Martinez is prosecuting the case.

Here is an update as of the court hearing held June 20, 2013 in the capital murder case in the Feb. 19 2007 murder of Glendale Police Officer and Peoria resident Anthony Holly, who was 24 years old at the time. The defendant is Bryan Wayne Hulsey.

Hulsey, a 38-year-old transient from Holbrook with a lengthy criminal history, is charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and misconduct involving weapons. Maricopa County prosecutors seek the death penalty.

This case certainly has taken a lot of years to get to trial.

It sure has, his docket is almost as long as Arias'. lol

I think that may be why it was delayed from the March 24th date, her retrial likely wouldnt' be finished by then, I also saw some mention of an ill defense attorney in BH's minute entries (as well as an attny that withdrew), I didn't go over all the motions and filings yet but it looks like there'll be plenty of time before jury selection begins.

I noticed several motions to have JM removed as prosecutor, he seems to instill fright in most defense counsel. lol

ETA: Minute Entry on removing JM:

http://www.courtminutes.maricopa.gov/docs/Criminal/052008/m3189605.pdf

"While it is impossible to fashion an order to preclude every potentially inappropriate argument, this Court is ordering that there will be no mention of Hitler (or implication to that regime), no engagement of specific trial jurors, and no reference to the religious affiliation of any counsel."

Oh, this is going to be an interesting case, all right. lol

I'd like to watch this one from the courtroom.

I just can't imagine what Hulsey's defense will be.

I didn't see any filing for cameras in the courtroom so we're probably out of luck with a live stream, I hope we'll at least have a some dedicated tweeters there on a daily basis to keep us informed. Would love to be able to attend in person but I'm not local. :(

wow I would think that azfamily or az central would be all over this with a live feed. I'd love to see JM in action again. He reminds me of a caged lion; back n forth, back n forth the he POUNCES! I love it!
I really miss having a live feed :( And admit am jonesing. OK there it is. lol

Cherry,
Do you know if this trial will be in Mariposa Superior Court? Is there also a Phoenix Supreme Court House? I'm trying to learn trial location.....just in case I am feeling crazy enough to drive up there.

The docket is listed on the Maricopa Co. Superior Court site, not sure if that means that's where the trial will be held but it seems logical (yeah, when is anything logical actually factual? lol). You could be our official Trial Watcher, how cool would that be? :)

I think everything the defense could do to delay this trial has already been done, including sick defense atty, so hopefully it will be a go for May. Just hope the Arias trial starts soon so as not to interfere.

Me too, and I hope hers is over with quicker than they think, maybe without cameras live they'll just get down to business, get it done and pack her off for Perrysville.

Juan Martinez is on medical leave for "undisclosed reasons".

Thanks for posting that Jeweks - wow, JA not until year's end? If Hulsey's is the longest-awaited capital trial, Arias' is sure to be the longest continuous (or continued) trial.

Thanks for being on top of this Jewels53. I missed that tweet. Just hope BH's trial starts in May as scheduled. Also hoping Juan has a successful recuperation from his undisclosed medical issue.
