LA - Danielle Wright, 19, Lafayette, 28 May 2013 - missing at sea/NZ
This is a little different than what we usually deal with here, but the story behind it is interesting, and sad.
Danielle Wright is a 19 year old young lady that has been missing since May 28th, 2013. Danielle is a psychology and criminal justice major at The University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She had just completed her sophomore year in college when an opportunity to sail the South Pacific was given to her. Wright, along with 6 other people set sail on a ship called "The Nina" from the port city of Opua, New Zealand, on May 28 for a journey to Sydney, Australia. The Nina, piloted by an experienced sailor and family friend, David Dyche III, should have reached Sydney in 20 to 40 days. Friday marked the 45th day since Nina set sail.
In June, a message was sent from The Nina asking about bad weather. That was the last time any passengers and her crew on The Nina where heard from again.

We have a thread on WS for Danielle & the other 6 passengers on the Nina who went missing at sea:
Danielle studied where I work. I hope her parents can find closure for their family and the families of others (obviously I want the Nina's crew to be found alive, but either way, I hope they get answers). When Australian officials stopped searching, Danielle's dad & mom went to Australia, where her dad got his pilot's license & searches for her using borrowed planes (her family is of some considerable financial means but have also held fundraisers as the costs are astronomical). Her parents are super determined. Danielle is lucky to have parents who won't stop looking for her (and have the means to do so).
