Another Christmas Nears and Brian Burns is Still Missing

On December 23, 2013, with the Christmas holiday fast approaching, the Delaware County, Iowa Sheriff's Office received a call.

Brian Burns, 55 at the time and known to many locals by the nickname "Farmer," had not been seen in several days.

Family members describe Burns as an "easy going guy that could joke around with you." Theresa Burns, Burns's sister-in-law, told Dateline their family initially hoped he would soon show up around town, as he often did.

But Brian has not been seen or heard from since. And as another Christmas quickly approaches, the Burns family simply wants to know what became of him.

"I can't see him packing up and just leaving," Theresa told Dateline NBC. "He was a super-nice guy. Everybody in town knew him."

Authorities believe Burns disappeared with nothing but the clothes on his back.

Anyone find any updates for Farmer ? Haven't seen anything recent a lot of links are gone now. TIA Sad hope Brian can get home even if just to be properly laid to rest.

Brian Michael Burns – The Charley Project

Brian was last seen at his home in the 1300 block of 180th Street in Manchester, Iowa on December 19, 2013. He went missing after telling his brother he was waiting for a ride from someone. He wasn't carrying any identification at the time of his disappearance, doesn't have a driver's license, and doesn't own a car or cellular phone, making him difficult to track.

In December 2018, Brian's cousin, Jerry Burns, who also lived in Manchester, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the death of 18-year-old Michelle Martinko. She was found stabbed to death inside her parents' car in a mall parking lot in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on December 20, 1979. Jerry, who would have been 25 years old at the time of the murder, was convicted in February 2020.

Brian Burns was the cousin of Jerry Burns, who was convicted of killing Michelle Martinko. At the time Jerry Burns was arrested in 2018 for the murder of Martinko, TV9 asked the Delaware County Sheriff’s office if Jerry Burns was connected to Brian Burns’ disappearance.

Delaware County Sheriff John LeClere said in a statement back in 2018, We are reviewing the case and at this time have not uncovered any additional information that would implicate Jerry Burns in that disappearance.”
