FL - Sharon Aydelott, 48, brutally murdered, Gulf Breeze, 24 Dec 2013 *Insanity*

Brandon was found at a nearby home, where he had been staying on and off for several months because of his tumultuous home life. The 6'3", 200-pound athlete peacefully surrendered and confessed to police how he beat his mom with a bat, cut her throat, and ultimately stabbed her in the eye. It is unclear what their final argument was about.

Teen accused of killing mother to be charged as an adult

December 26, 2013

"GULF BREEZE — The 17-year-old boy accused of killing his mother on Christmas Eve will be charged as an adult, prosecutors said Thursday.

State Attorney Bill Eddins confirmed that his office has filed paperwork charging William Brandon Aydelotte with second-degree murder in adult court.

Public Defender Bruce Miller said his office anticipated that. He said state law allows for such a filing in murder cases, and he doesn’t anticipate his office will challenge that."

I live in Gulf Breeze, and wow is probably the best way to describe our reaction here. :( On Christmas Eve morning we also had another tragedy with another GBHS senior, who was killed by LE after a confrontation in P'Cola. Two horrible tragedies, both on the same day -- my prayers to both of these families.

A vigil last night in Gulf Breeze remembered not only Sharon Aydelott but also 17-year-old William Cody Goodman, killed Christmas Eve after a police chase. Goodman was facing charges of vehicular manslaughter for an accident in March. Tuesday morning, Pensacola police tried to pull him over but he sped away and later ran over an officer's leg. Another officer fired into the car killing Goodman. All day Friday, community members came together to deliver flowers and gifts at this makeshift memorial in front of Gulf Breeze High School, dedicated to the victims of a tragic Christmas Eve and just like here at Gulf Breeze High School, throughout the community, grieving continues.

A Gulf Breeze teenager accused of his mother's murder has been ruled incompetent to stand trial for a third time, according to the State Attorney's Office...

Jensen said hospital personnel will continue to monitor Aydelott and notify the state if he becomes competent. Jensen said if Aydelott remains incompetent, the hospital will continue to provide six-month status reports.

Aydelott was charged with premeditated murder in his mother's death. He will remain in state custody indefinitely unless found competent for trial, in which case he would face life in prison.

State doctors have found William Brandon Aydelott, a Gulf Breeze man charged with killing his mother when he was a teenager, competent to stand trial.

However, a judge granted a request for a second opinion in a hearing Thursday. If the second doctor affirms Aydelott's competence, the case will go forward to trial.

(...) He tentatively scheduled a hearing July 19 to discuss the results of the second evaluation.

Brandon Aydelott found not guilty in mom's murder - October 2016

http://www.pnj.com/story/news/crime/2016/10/11/brandon-aydelott-trial/91891056/

Former Gulf Breeze High School student William Brandon Aydelott, 20, was found not guilty by reason of insanity in the 2013 Christmas Eve killing of his mother, Sharon Aydelott.

In a one-day judge trial before Circuit Judge John F. Simon, psychiatrist Dr. Robert Scott Benson testified Aydelott suffers from schizophrenia, and that Aydelott believed he was doing the right thing when he obeyed "auditory hallucinations" commanding him to kill his mother. The physician also testified that Aydelott would be a danger to the community if released back into society. After rendering his verdict, Simon ordered the 20-year-old to be involuntarily committed to a secure state hospital.

Aydelott will undergo a mental evaluation in six months, and again each year thereafter, to determine if his mental health has improved such that he is no longer a threat to the community. Assistant State Attorney Greg Marcille said that any effort to have Aydelott released or placed in less restrictive custody would require consensus from multiple doctors and approval from a judge. He added that any time Aydelott's case comes up for review, his office would oppose Aydelott's release.

Marcille said although it is within the realm of possibility that Aydelott could someday walk the streets a free man, "That will not happen anytime in the near future."

After the verdict, Sharon Aydelott's sister, Pamela Hill, read a letter to the court describing how her sister's murder and Aydelott's incarceration had devastated her family.

Still, Hill said she had forgiven her nephew and would support him as best she could, as often as she could.

"I want Brandon to know I love him always, God loves him always and his mom loves him always," Hill said.
