Free grave shovels and fingerprints for architects

January's traditionally a time for new legislation. In Hungary poor people who can't afford a funeral for a loved one will now be able to obtain a free grave, urn or shovel, and in Texas architects will have to be fingerprinted. Oh, and in France it's now the law police must address arrestees as 'vous' and not 'tu'.

I looked up the architect fingerprint thing - it's true. Texas is now the only state in the union requiring architects to be fingerprinted and have a background check before they get their permit. Architects advocates fought it but decided 'discretion was the better part of valor'.
