Huntington police said Diane Lee Bess, 21, was last seen on Dec. 24 when she left her home in the 200 block of Main Street in Guyandotte to go shopping. Her family has not heard from her since that time.

Bess is described as a light-skinned, black woman, 5 feet 2 inches tall, 120 pounds, with hazel eyes and light brown, shoulder-length hair.

Christmas Eve was 11 days ago! You would think we would have heard about this sooner! Diane doesn't have a facebook that I can locate.

Looks like the 200 block on Main street is only 2 blocks away from James Darren Mathis's car was located on the 31st street bridge of Huntington, WV.

I live very nearby, and this is the first I've heard of it!
I'd like to know if she is married, dating, children?, Does she work somewhere, what kind of a vehicle was she in when she left and was she shopping with anyone? She's pretty far from any shopping where she lives to walk. I can't ferret out any info on her online that might help.

Her listed address is very near the 31 st bridge, and area isn't traditionally thought of as the nicest area, but there are some fantastic people I know over there too, so...heck, any area can be bad these days. :(

But the public info released is very sparse IMHO:twocents:

I'm seeing articles stating she's 20 and another where she's 21.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (Dan Matics) -- It was most certainly not how one mother wanted to ring in the new year.

She spoke out Friday night, pleading that police safely find her daughter who disappeared on Christmas Eve.

Haven't read why reporting her missing was delayed until now. There will be more tomorrow, hopefully. Maybe because of her age. She's an adult. Her mom is terribly worried though.

Thank you so much!! I also think that it is strange that she is just now being reported missing now :(...

No mention of cellphone or social media... any surveillance that can be checked in the area around her home to ID the car she left in.... any friends who might know?

I can't find any updates since 1/3/14 either. Why? :(

Makes no sense. It was brought to the publics attention and then no follow up?

I just left a question/message asking if she's been found on the Huntington PD's FB under a post they have about Diane being missing.

A body was found earlier today in Cabell County, approx. 15 - 20 miles from where James Darren Mathis's car was found and approx. the same miles from where Diane Bess was last seen. So far, they haven't released whether the body is male or female. It just showed up as a breaking news alert.

http://www.wchstv.com/newsroom/eyewitness/140117_22511.shtml

Cabell County deputies said the body was found along Route 10 near Salt Rock Friday afternoon. Sheriff Tom McComas said his department is working with the Huntington Police Department to determine if the body is that of a person reported missing.

I live in Huntington and have been following the story of the body that was found on Rt. 10 this afternoon. The sheriff's department says that they believe it is the body of a woman. Huntington police investigators are also on the scene, and they say that the clothing found with the body is similar to the clothing Diane Bess was last seen wearing. I hope this link works. I'm using a tablet.

That does not sound good :(

(Link works. Thank you!)

I'm just finding this thread and haven't read everything yet...I know they found a female body with clothes similar to what Diane was wearing when she disappeared but has anything been mentioned anywhere about the car she was driving when she left?
