Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

"When from a long distant past nothing persists, after the people are dead, after things are broken and scattered, still alone, more persistent, more faithful, the smell and taste of things remain poised a long, long time like souls, ready to remind us, waiting, hoping for their moment amid the ruins of all the rest, and bear unfaltering in the tiny and almost impalpable drop of their essence the vast structure of recollection."

“No one believes that he would have walked away from his snowmachine,” reads a flier she is distributing seeking information.

In an interview, Davis said that’s her own opinion. Law enforcement hasn’t backed her up on that. But her son did depend on that machine.

“He didn’t have a driver’s license, so he used his snowmachine for pleasure as well as for transportation through the trails,” she said.

seems like he was trying to get his life in order.

I hope his former drug days did not come back to haunt him.

According to the Alaska Dispatch article:

In the case of Newell, the trail of evidence has additional complications. Newell was missing almost four days before Troopers were notified, and Troopers also weren't the ones to recover the snowmachine -- that's something Wellborn did. And snow that has fallen since then has covered up any tracks they would have found had then been called to the site on the day the machine was discovered. Wellborn has told them what he saw there, but Troopers have no way to verify it with their own eyes...

It was found wedged between two trees, headed toward a dead end. If Newell had to avoid something on the trail, it would be the last place he'd turn to avoid something or get away, Wellborn said. Driving yourself into an obstacle didn't make sense. Plus, the machine, though beaten up, was still driveable. And, the only set of tracks leading away from the machine led up to the road, not toward the lake or into the woods. A single glove was lying in the snow...

“We are finding more and more reasons to believe his snowmachine was staged there to cover up his disappearance. We no longer believe we are looking at a missing person case. We are looking at a homicide,” Wellborn explained.

Falynn Potter, a friend of Corey Newell, says she and the family believe the body found in Meadow Lake area is his.
Troopers say the adult male body was found in the Meadow Lake area of the Mat-Su Valley. Due to the body being exposed to cold temperatures for a length of time, an autopsy could takes days, even weeks.

Corey Newell, 32, whose body was found in mid-February, 45 days after searchers found his empty snowmachine in Meadow Lakes, died from exposure but also had a fractured skull, according to a State Medical Examiner’s Office autopsy report released this week by family members.

Newell was last seen Dec. 29 when he left a friend’s house in the Pittman Road area of Meadow Lakes. Searchers found his Polaris snowmachine three days later in the woods off Pittman. His frozen body was found in the area on Feb. 12.

Friends and family contend that Newell died under suspicious circumstances. But medical examiner Dr. Ken Gallagher found that Newell died from “hypothermia due to environmental cold exposure.” He called “(b)lunt force injury of the head” with a fracture near his right eye a “significant other finding” in the Feb. 28 autopsy report. “These injuries are consistent with a reported snow machine accident,” he wrote.
