An article well-worth reading, from usatoday:

Honoring the heroes of music, not these juvenile imitators of recent notoriety.

Here’s the Amazing Transcript of Pete Seeger Pissing Off the House Un-American Activities Committee
    by Evan McMurry | 11:12 am, January 28th, 2014

"Pete Seeger, the legendary folk singer (though he didn’t care for the term), died last night at the age of 94. A longtime political activist, Seeger is the only member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to have been cited for contempt by Congress for his refusal to cooperate with the House Un-American Activities Committee.

The transcript of said questioning is like a Joseph Heller novel come to life. Seeger was called on August 18, 1955 and quizzed about the where and when of his performances and allegiances. Seeger skillfully tap-danced around the questions, often with humor, sometimes with protest, and refused to use the Fifth Amendment as a literal get-out-of-jail-free card. He was eventually sentenced to a year in prison for contempt, a verdict he successfully appealed."

Great man - but wow, all sortsa differences did I have with the old guy, even being on the same side politically! From whatever-the-hell-happened when Dylan went electric at Newport '65 to mispronouncing the title location in 'Bells of Rhymney' (Anglo-Welsh pronunciation: Rum-ny) when applying music to Idris Davies's 1938 'Gwalia Deserta,' it was always something, lol.

Requiescat in pace Pete. You carried the flag.

As a local resident and child of the 60's, I adored Pete Seeger.
He was local icon that helped clean the Hudson, bring attention to serious issues, and always inspired children. He worked until the end.

His life had so much meaning, built his own log cabin on the banks of The Hudson. He stood for his beliefs always in a quiet and most gracious manor.

I have few heroes, Pete was one of them.

    History here, comments are outstanding.

    Wink

I'm local. Pete was a neighbor.

All politics aside, (never looked) I admired him for all his hard work for so many years in our community. He was a true treasure IMO.

He dropped out of Harvard, built a log cabin on the banks of the Hudson.
    No water or electric.

IMO, he was Gracious, Humble, Well spoken, Stood for all men/women.

He stood up for himself, always.

May his music and his soul carry him forward.
