MO - Jessica Murafetis, 44, Holts Summit, 30 Jan 2014

Holts Summit police report they have positively identified the body of the female found today and next of kin have been notified. The victim is Jessica Murafetis, age 44, from Chilhowee, Mo., in rural Johnson County.

Jessica Murafetis’s body was found a little before 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the grassy area north of the Exxon Mobil gas station just off U.S. 54 in Holts Summit. The area where the body was found is near a gravel lot where tractor-trailers park...

Investigators don’t know how long the woman had been dead, Haycook said, and that will be difficult to determine because of the cold weather. He said the body had not decomposed...

Haycook said investigators plan to review tapes from the Exxon Mobil station.

This gas station is one that I stop at almost daily and about 1/2 mile from my home. This gas station is also a truck stop, conveniently located on the back side of the gas station where the body was found. If you look on the victims Facebook page you'll find pictures of her in the front seat of a semi and read how she posted about going to trucking school. My bet is she got with a trucker who killed her and dumped her body in the field behind where the truckers gas up.

She may have also been pregnant. She posted at the end of last year that she was "4 weeks" which by now, if she was indeed pregnant, would have put her at aboutt 4 or 5 months.

One news story says the body had not decomposed (cold weather preserved the body) and another article says the condition of the body made it impossible for the medical examiner to perform an autopsy.

    What's up with that?

Maybe the cold weather had preserved it and the body had frozen so they had to wait until it unthawed?

The final results of the autopsy will months to come back. There was no signs of trauma and are now waiting toxicology results. At first they thought foul play but now are backing away to undetermined.

Wondering if this case will go cold? I drive past the field she was found in every day to take my kids to school and just wonder what anybody was doing back in that field to begin with to even have found her in the first place. The parking lot goes quite a way back behind the gas station and the field is rather large. Not sure what anyone was doing there to have come across her.

A medical examiner says a Kansas City woman whose body was found last January at a mid-Missouri gas station died of hypothermia.

The Boone/Callaway Medical Examiner's Office said Wednesday that 44-year-old Jessica Murafetis had drugs in her system but not enough to be considered an overdose.
