Thanks los2188, I was just coming here to post this.

I'm in the Sacramento County area and wanted to add that this is in the South Sacramento area, East of Highway 99. For lack of a better way of wording it... the "dicier" part of South Sac is to the West of Highway 99, so I was glad about where she was last seen. It made me feel better about her chances of finding someone helpful, if that's what she needs. There are quite a few Romanian families in that area including some friends of ours. I'll definitely pass this along to our friends. ETA: I specified Romanian because that was in her description.

Here's a map: http://goo.gl/maps/17EMc (note there's not an exact address, just going by the 8100 block of Tommy Circle given in the articles)

What is meant by "behaving in an inconsistent and suspicious manner"? Possible mental issues? Scared of someone?

At-Risk Missing Adult

Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department is seeking the public’s assistance to locate an at-risk missing female adult; Maria Santa, 39. Maria was last seen yesterday, February 2nd at her residence in the 8100 block of Tommy Circle in Sacramento, CA.

Maria is described as a Romanian female standing 4’9” tall and weighing approximately 185 pounds. She has long, straight brown hair, brown eyes and it is unknown what she is wearing. Maria left her residence on foot without advising any family members and is considered to be at-risk due to suspicious and inconsistent patterns in her normal behavior.

Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of Maria is urged to contact the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department at (916) 874-5115.

Is there anything new about this case? I showed her picture and info to our friends who are Romanian and have a lot of family in the South Sac area, and was pretty upset that the response I got was mostly "she's not Romanian!" They thought she looked Hispanic, and once they heard her name they were even more convinced. No offense intended to our friends, but they're kind of isolated on the race thing and weren't even interested as soon as they decided that she wasn't Romanian.

I personally don't care what race she is, I just want her found and safe. However, I worry that it could make it harder to find her if she's 'labeled' incorrectly. I really wish we had more info about the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.

I searched the surname Santa and there are some Hungarians with that name. Maria may be an ethnic Hungarian from Romania. Hungarians are the largest minority in Romania.

In October 2011 Romanians made up 88.6% of the population. The largest ethnic minorities are the Hungarians, who make up 6.5% of the population and Roma, who make up 3.2% of the population.

Ah thanks Ranch. That may be it. I was more upset by our friends' reaction than anything... it was like "oh she's not actually Romanian, so we don't care." Apparently she doesn't fit their stereotype, so they're not interested. That bothered me a lot (and reminded me why they're more like acquaintances than friends). I was really hoping that could be a good avenue/resource in helping to find her - get the word out at their church, for example.

I still haven't seen anything further in the news about her. I hope she's been found, or able to find help if that's what she needed/wanted.

No longer in Charley's Project. No listing in NamUs.

I wonder if this is her? Correct name and age and too much of a coincidence about February 2014

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A Sacramento couple arraigned today for a grand jury indictment charging Maria Santa, 41, with failing to surrender for service of sentence and obstruction of justice, and charging Virgil Santa, 43, with harboring a fugitive, Acting United States Attorney Phillip A. Talbert announced.

According to court documents, Maria Santa was previously sentenced to 20 months in prison for mortgage fraud and was ordered to begin serving her sentence in February 2014. When her motion for bail pending appeal was denied, she fled the jurisdiction and left a note at her residence that made it appear that she had committed suicide. On August 26, 2016, Maria Santa was arrested in Sacramento as a passenger in a vehicle her husband Virgil Santa was driving.
