    UK - Patrick Halpin, 18, London, 4 Feb 2014

    Patrick Halpin

Fears are growing for the whereabouts of missing teenager after the 18-year-old went missing in London on Tuesday night. The DCU student - who is originally from Loughrea in Galway - was last seen in The Zoo nightclub just off Leicester Square. It's understood he left the nightclub to go to a nearby Burger King. He hasn't been seen since.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

"When from a long distant past nothing persists, after the people are dead, after things are broken and scattered, still alone, more persistent, more faithful, the smell and taste of things remain poised a long, long time like souls, ready to remind us, waiting, hoping for their moment amid the ruins of all the rest, and bear unfaltering in the tiny and almost impalpable drop of their essence the vast structure of recollection."

It appears that the family was incorrectly told he had been found. But he hasn't.

This article gives a bit more information

He recently turned 18 and this is the first time he has left Ireland. He was in London on a university trip, it seems.

Heartbreaking for the family.especially since they were told just hours before that he was found safe and well.

CCTV footage shows him climbing external stairs leading up to the roof of the nightclub and neighbouring buildings.

A nearby worker who asked not to be named told the Standard: “Police told us there was CCTV of him going up a staircase and we were told that’s how he had got up to the roof.

So, there is the "how"..... now for the "why?".

Police not treating it as suspicious, so either suicide or accident whilst drunk I guess.

How awful - it was the first time he'd left Ireland. His poor friends must be feeling terrible, not that they could have anticipated anything like this happening.

Tragic teenager Patrick Halpin slipped and fell to his death from a roof in London, police now believe.

London Metropolitan Police have confirmed they are not treating the Galway student’s death as suspicious and now believe he plunged from a height.

Cops are investigating if the 18-year-old was trying to get back into a nightclub he had earlier left to get food.

However, they are waiting for his postmortem results before confirming the cause of death.

I don't quite understand the reasoning, but an inquest has found Patrick's high fitness levels, combined with not being accustomed to drinking, led to the alcohol he consumed that night having an extreme effect. His levels were only half that of the limit for drivers.

CCTV did show him bumping gently into people though ( and apologising) and he was told to go get some food to help him sober up. It was a difficult and complex route to get to the point he fell from.

Airline procedures are being looked at, in light of the 'cruel twist' that led to Patrick's parents initially being told he'd safely boarded his flight home.

    Rest in peace young Patrick.
