On the morning of February 7th 2014, two co-defendants in the case – 27-year-old Larry L. Anderson and his girlfriend, 25-year-old Marryssa M. Middleton – approached Woody about taking part in their plan to attack Clemons. Middleton was angry at Clemons over comments she had made on social media.
Christopher Pugh, 32 of Junction City, was also included in the plan.
Court documents state that Woody knew Middleton through his wife, 27-year-old Shantrell Holliday, who is also listed as a co-defendant. Holliday is a former soldier who was stationed at Fort Riley, where she and Woody lived.
The plan involved Woody arranging a rendezvous with Clemons, who prosecutors say was a prostitute, at the hotel. Woody, Pugh, Anderson and Middleton drove to the victim’s hotel in Junction City. Woody walked into the room and after discussing the encounter, told Clemons he needed to get money from his car.
Woody told prosecutors that before leaving the room, he heard a knock at the door. The other three defendants then rushed into the room and Middleton immediately began beating the victim.
During the attack, Middleton demanded $300 she claimed Clemons owed her. Hoping to end the assault, Clemons claimed she had the money at hotel in Grandview Plaza. The defendants drove Clemons to that hotel, but she was still unable to produce the money. They then forced Clemons back into the car and took her to Woody’s house, located on the military base at Fort Riley.
