    Enoch "Dickie" Dixon

Deputies Search For Missing Man In Grayson County -

    GRAYSON COUNTY, TX --
A senior citizen has disappeared from his home near Pottsboro, and now a day later, the search is still underway to find him.
Family members are on edge as they wait and worry. The man suffers from dementia and they say he sometimes can't even recognize them. He left without his cane, and they don't think he could have gotten very far.
Deputies say Enoch "Dickie" Dixon, 83, suffers from dementia and disappeared from his home on Flowing Wells Road on Friday evening.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

"When from a long distant past nothing persists, after the people are dead, after things are broken and scattered, still alone, more persistent, more faithful, the smell and taste of things remain poised a long, long time like souls, ready to remind us, waiting, hoping for their moment amid the ruins of all the rest, and bear unfaltering in the tiny and almost impalpable drop of their essence the vast structure of recollection."

I'm worried about Mr. Dixon. Hoping he's found safe and warm.

I don't know what to think. He doesn't have his cane and his family says he couldn't get far without it. Also they said he can't get over the fence in the backyard. I'm sure that's probably true. But no one could track him and a helicopter didn't see him. So... What does that mean???

They're awfully close to water (red pin below is approx. location that was provided in the article). But I don't think he could've gotten there on his own, given the information about him not being able to walk far and he took off on foot.

I'm worried too. Dementia can trigger all sorts of strange behaviours including paranoia, especially worse when he doesn't recognize family.

"I think he walked out to the road. Somebody picked him up, but whoever did I hope they don't hurt him. Hope they bring him back," Jimmy said.

Wilson and hundreds of people, friends, family and just concerned community members have been searching for him every day since his disappearance.

Now two search and recovery organizations are joining those efforts.

"Texas Equusearch will be here today or tomorrow and CUE for the Missing Persons will be here," Wilson said. We've talked to Congressman Ralph Hall and he is sending a team down here."

Hope they find him. I have no idea where this town is, btw.
Several years ago, there was an elderly lady in my area with Alzheimer's, who just left walking, and I don't think she has ever been found. If she was, there was no followup that I saw or heard about.
So sad... these old people with any form of dementia should not be living alone, they should be in a place where they can be watched all the time.

I believe his son was living with him. And that's the odd thing. He left while the son was in the shower. So, what are the chances he got far without a cane in that time? And, what would be the odds someone would harm him in that short time? He reminds me of my grandpa. It's been too many days.

Thanks, I missed that part. Wonder if he's ever wandered off like that before? That seems to happen a lot in the early stages of dementia, when they still have some good days. My uncle had Alzheimer's and it was sad when his wife had to finally put him in a nursing home.
I bet his son has his hands full, but I hope they find this gentleman before long. It is still pretty cool at night, even though the days are nice.

They did mention he'd started to wander off before, but that he was seen early and brought home safely.

Alzheimer's is so heartbreaking. I'm sorry about your uncle. I know long term care is a difficult decision. But dementia requires 24/7 eyes, 8 days a week. Add to that the emotional toll of it being your relative and it's just too much to do alone. I so hope we get resolution (and happy news) for his son and daughter.
