GA - Robert 'Bobby' Weaver, 28, Oxford, 5 Sept. 2013

The family of a Newton County man missing for more than five months is offering a reward for information leading to his location.

Robert Weaver, who goes by the name, “Bobby,” was last seen around 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, walking with his dog south along Ga. Highway 142 near Stone Road.

Bobby Weaver’s family is offering a $2,000 reward to anyone who can provide information that leads to his location or, if foul play was involved, information that leads to the arrest and conviction of whoever was responsible.

Bobby Weaver is a white male, 5 feet, 8 inches tall, weighs about 160 pounds, has brown hair, brown eyes and has tattoos on his forearms. He has a medical condition that causes a staggered walk. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a white shirt.

Anyone with any information, should contact NCSO Detective Ed Digby at 678-625-1448. To submit an anonymous tip, call 678-625-5007 or email anonymoustipline@newtonsheriffga.org.

Weaver, of Oxford, was last seen Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, walking south down Ga. Highway 142 with his large dog, King near Stone Road. Weaver, who lived in Oxford with his grandmother, was reported missing on Sept. 6.

Deputies with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office searched the area with a K9 Unit; however the track was lost near Ga. Highway 142, indicating Weaver might have gotten into a vehicle.

NCSO investigators were called back to Weaver’s home Monday morning, Sept. 9, after Weaver’s dog returned to the home. There was an immediate search of the area that day, but officers were not able to locate him.

During the ongoing investigation, deputies thought a lump sum of money was withdrawn from Weaver’s bank account after he went missing, but the information wasn’t exact and was a dead end. His father, Robert Weaver said he’s still hoping someone with any information will come forward.

What King saw: Missing Oxford man's dog needs home

When Bobby Weaver rescued his dog, King, the second time, he promised he would never let anything happen to him again.

Hopefully, King’s days of needing saving are in the past. He was the sole survivor of a number of dogs thought to have been thrown over a bridge on Hwy. 138 when he was six months old. He survived euthanization through gassing, the sole remainder of about 10 dogs.

Then, he returned alone four days after going on a walk with his owner, Robert “Bobby” Weaver, who has not been seen since that day in September 2013. And with Bobby gone, King, who survived so many times, needed help once more.

Now King has three dogs to play with and a family that prevented him from being euthanized again. When Animal Medical of Covington Inc. gave King a temporary haven after Weaver’s grandmother, Evelyn Weaver, moved to Indiana and was unable to care for the last thing she said she had of her grandson, King needed saving one last time.

I have been keeping up with this case a bit since it was somewhat local. Bobby and King's story really got me. I am so happy to hear that King has found a new home with this sweet man.

I have heard NO news lately regarding his disappearance His grandmother is the only person I can find online that posts about him, and unfortunately, she seems to think he is no longer alive. I hope they can find out what happened to him soon.

Robert “Bobby” Weaver was last seen on Sept. 5, 2013 around 7:25 p.m. walking his dog on Highway 142 near Stone Road. The dog returned home unharmed four days after Weaver’s disappearance.

"I had my hopes up that Bobby was going to come back home," said Weaver's mother Lori Fields. "But when that dog showed up by himself four days later, I knew I'd never see him again."

Searchers find remains believed to be man missing more than two years

    [...]
A fundraiser for the CUE Center was held in September and on Saturday, teams of searchers – including teams with horses, dogs and ATVs, as well as a group of deputies from the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, dubbed the “Sheriff’s Posse” — joined forces with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office to blanket the area where Bobby was last seen.

#“They are just an incredible group of people. They are very gracious, professional and compassionate,” Jessica told the Citizen. “They also knew what they were doing. … They were very technical using iPads to map out the area with GPS coordinates. There was far more that went into it logistically than I imagined.”

The search began around 8 a.m.
    [...]
At approximately 1:30 p.m. the search teams located human remains in heavy brush approximately a mile from the area where Bobby Weaver was last sighted. Authorities believe the remains are those of Weaver due to the personal effects found nearby, such as identifying documents.

#The Newton County coroner will work with the Medical Examiner’s Office at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to make a positive identification of the remains.

#Jessica Weaver said while emotions are running high for the family, she is “extraordinarily thankful” for the CUE Center and NCSO Investigator Brent Morrison and Sgt. Cortney Morrison.

#“Without them, this never would have happened. I cannot express enough gratitude to them. Without the help of Detective Morrison and Sgt. Morrison, I don’t know if this search would have been approved to begin with,” said Jessica.

#She said news that Bobby had been found has been hard on the family, which now beings the grieving process again.

#“Until you know for sure, you still have a little bit of hope,” she said. “I’m glad he’s not laying out in the rain and the elements anymore. I’m glad to be able to bring him home. But, still the family will never have another opportunity to see him again, to say, ‘I love you, to have family gatherings where the family is complete. There will always be a hole. Ten years, 30 or 40 years down the road, our family will never be whole again.”
