UK - Amrita Kaur, 22 mos, dies in fall from window, Bradford, 18 Feb 2014

A two year-old girl has been found dead in a suburban street in Bradford and a woman in her 30s is in critical condition.

Neighbours are reporting the toddler plunged headfirst from a window in a home and the woman followed shortly after, backwards.

A 36 year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murdering her two year old daughter. This is just horrible. Poor little girl. It sounded as though she came out of the window headfirst, and so had little chance to protect herself.

So they have arrested the mother, who is in critical condition? Is that correct?
It seems odd to place her under arrest while she is still critical... but okay.

I think possibly it's in order for police to be present at the hospital. Not only to prevent the suspect leaving if sedation's reduced, but maybe to provide some protection too?

Or maybe to ensure police can ask her questions if/when she regains consciousness?

Something puzzling me about this is that local people say they saw a cleaner at the house, as well as the woman. Yet at the links you can clearly see the door was ripped from its frame as (presumably) a battering ram was used by police to break it down.

It would be reassuring to know at this point if the mom and child were indeed the only people in the house at the time both went out of the window. It doesn't alter the outcome for that poor little one, of course.

It's confirmed the toddler died as a result of injuries from the fall.

Sorry, either I got confused or the reports did. It was the poor window cleaner who apparently found the mother and child.

Police are 'waiting to speak' to the mother at her bedside, so I guess that's why they have made an official 'arrest'.

I think the family are Indian/Indian ancestry from this article, and it sounds like she had recently separated from her husband. That can be quite a big deal in Indian communities, even if they are British-born, Indian ancestry Brit citizens.

So was it the window cleaner who saw them coming out of the window? If he could get access to the back of the property where they were laying, why did police have to break open the front door?

Mother is now stable in hospital but police still haven't been able to question her. She has been placed on bail.

Not named yet either, far as I can see.

Probably to make sure that there were no other victims in the house.

A report today says the 36 year old mother is in stable condition but police still haven't been able to question her.

The baby girl has been named as 22 month old Amrita Kaur.

    Rest in peace, little Amrita.

You know, if police arrest someone, they should be obliged to name them. It can lead to all sorts of unnecessary problems if they don't. That's my opinion, anyway.

    From March 2015:

    http://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.u...stairs_window/

Gundeep Sanghera, 37, had become schizophrenic and suffered delusions, including that her daughter, Amrita Kaur, would be taken away and tortured, Bradford Crown Court was told...

Sanghera denied murdering her daughter, but admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility. She was made subject of a secure hospital order with an indefinite restriction on her release.
