Vancouver? Really? I'm shocked. My city made it. :takeabow:

Why are you shocked? Vancouver was named Best City in the World for several years. It's a wonderful city.

The last time I was in Vancouver visiting my daughter, I was simply bowled over by how polite the young people were. I'm by no means old, but I never had to stand while on a bus. The young people simply jump out of their seats to offer them to anyone older than themselves.

Expensive
Crime
Missing people.

“Vancouver police gets between 3,000 and 4,000 missing persons reports every year,” said Vancouver police spokesman Const. Brian Montague.

I'm sure it's a beautiful city but I wouldn't live there.

Congrats ~n/t~

Okay, not blowing the party, but in the U.S. Vancouver is known as THE party city of the planet. It has it's good, and it's bad. Like anywhere else.

So, since nt, (not typin those fancy figures in your name again, lol, I am lazy) lives there, is it true that cuisine is exquisite from every nation? Shopping is the same? Although I don't really shop. I know the drug scene is said to be exquisite, and hey, I'm with you, I've kept up with the dark side via t.v - and friends bringing "web friends here, uh umm, for whatever escort service that cost them -. but do not participate, but SHOW us WS peeps what makes it the sunny side. I mean, some links, some videos, some commercials even (lol). PBS showed me the bright side I mentioned already, sort of.

I really want to know. I travel vicariously and PBS whimps out on gettin' to the good stuff, and I mean the happy stuff, not the good "erm, um, mary jane or worse kind of stuff" I mean, the City at work with normal stuff. PBS only do where fearful people can go, and it is boring. Beige motel room, beige Asian Market, beige bagel..... I wanna see the good side!!!!!

hint, hint, wink, wink, nudge, nudge :python: :D

I'm not from Vancouver. My city made the list (Montreal). If you decide to travel here, I'll be more than happy to provide you with information. :)

Montreal is my favourite city in the whole world. :)

To be fair you need to finish with the rest of the information.

At the end of each year, cases outstanding (not resolved) usually number from five to a dozen, depending on the circumstances of the disappearance. Most, if not all, unsolved cases are adults.

I suppose following many of the cases here like http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?t=66076&highlight=Highway+tears

concern me. Don't get me wrong. I'm sure Vancouver is a gorgeous city. I've been to Kelowna on business and it's absolutely stunning.

The highway of tears is indeed a terrible, terrible thing. However it's 1300 kms away from Vancouver.

Yes, Vancouver is lovely. The thing that impresses me most is that it is completely accessible to anyone. I wonder if having had a mayor who was wheelchair-bound made the city determined to become barriers-free.

4 out of 5 of those are in Canada. The URL that you cite is Canadian. Bias? Surely we do not think so.

~n/t~, we are thinking of making Montreal our next family vacation, either driving up or coming via train. I've always wanted to go, but never thought of going with kids :)help:), so give me a quick and dirty rundown of stuff for two teens (boy and girl) and two little guys (7 and 9). Also trying to decide whether to come in winter (kids and DH are all skiers/boarders) or in summer (less weather hassle if we come in late summer).

Livable for whom? I notice that none of those cities have significant black populations so apparently they aren't welcome in these places.

I hardly think it is a case of being welcome... Canada has a fairly small black population (less than 3%) compared to the US so no, no cities in Canada would have a "significant" black population.

While I am not a big fan of Vancouver it is full of many ethnicities, cultures, religions, etc. and can see it as be livable for all, not just one specific group...

Just to stir the pot a little, the Germans are making a point of saying Munich is ranked higher than Vancouver...:)

I'm not taking sides here by the way - I lived in Munich but it didn't suit me at all.

http://www.thelocal.de/20140220/german-cities-offer-best-quality-of-life

Wow, the Germans have taken 4/5 of the top spots! Well done! Maybe next time I head to Europe I will hit Germany. Usually I am in Portugal, where I have family, and Spain, both of which I love (especially the Azores).

I'd love to see the rest of the rankings for all regions...but the full report is $500 or so?!

Imagine, if you could choose a country to be in at anytime of day, or for any purpose.

I'd have breakfast in Paris
Work in Sydney
Lunch in NewYork
Work in London
Dinner in California
Late night in Madrid

I can't decide where I'd shop or 'escape' to, at weekends. Where's the best place for shopping in the world? Not Germany, of that I am certain.

Shopping would have to be Italy, no? Especially if we are talking clothes. I've never met a badly dressed Italian!
