Teens defend ‘fail factory’ school in error-filled letters

"These kids should learn write from wrong."

"Earlier this month, The Post exposed a scheme at Manhattan’s Murry Bergtraum HS for Business Careers in which failing students could get full credit without attending class, but instead watch video lessons and take tests online. One social-studies teacher had a roster of 475 students in all grades and subjects."

"Red-faced administrators encouraged a student letter-writing campaign to attack The Post and defend its “blended learning” program. Eighteen kids e-mailed to argue that their alma mater got a bad rap."

"Almost every letter was filled with spelling, grammar and punctuation errors."

"Teachers at troubled Murry Bergtraum HS on Sunday blasted its principal and p.r. guy for bungling a student letter-writing campaign to The Post — and one parent group said the school should be shut down."

“This school has been so poorly managed, and the principal takes no responsibility,” said John Elfrank-Dana, a history teacher at Bergtraum, joining a chorus of educators there.
“It doesn’t surprise me at all that they would screw this up, too.”

A couple of the students' emails:

"The students’ ensuing e-mails — many riddled with grammatical errors — also were sent to Chancellor Carmen Fariña."

“What do you get of giving false accusations im one of the students that has blended learning I had a course of English and I passed and and it helped a lot you’re a reported your support to get truth information other than starting rumors,” one student wrote."

"Another student defended the blended-learning program by saying, “You can digest the information in your own paste.”

"Yet another called it a “very awarding program.”

my DD had a fabulous english teacher in sophomore year. He made them HANDWRITE their papers , longhand, in the classroom. They had to turn them in each day and he would pass them back and they would work on them in the class room. So they had to look up spelling and grammar themselves and could not copy anyone at home or get any one else to do their work. It taught her a lot to have to do the work entirely by herself in the classroom.

I feel bad for the teachers. These kids lack the proper foundation. High school teachers don't have the time or resources to go back and teach what students should have learned in elementary school. As long as schools keep socially promoting students, this is going to happen.

Don't worry, folks. Acceptable writing skills for Twitter, Facebook, other social media.
Not like students are graduating from Manhattan’s Murry Bergtraum HS for Business Careers.
