Long Island power broker shot at his posh castle-turned-wedding hall that has hosted nuptials of the stars

Long Island hotelier Gary Melius, 69, shot in the head outside his $30 million Oheka Castle on Monday

Shot by a masked gunman through the eye at around 12.30pm as he walked through the parking lot

His daughter Kelly Meloius discovered him and rushed him to hospital

The Melius family live on the sprawling estate

Currently in a stable condition in hospital surrounded by his family

Police sources have speculated the attack could have been an assassination attempt

Oheka Castle has hosted the wedding of disgraced former New York mayoral hopeful - Anthony Weiner and pop star Kevin Jonas

The SCPD has announced that they have no leads and no suspect. I think it was a hit. You don't get as wealthy and powerful as he is without stepping on a few toes ...

Been watching this on my local news.
Guy lucked out. The bullet didn't penetrate his skull, it skipped like a stone between the skin and bone and exited. Same thing happened to a guy I grew up with when he was in Iraq, he has a wicked scar but is otherwise OK.

Wow, so it was more than one person, that's got to be pretty rare. This is like something out of Law & Order.

No way the team drove there w/o tags; too much of a risk of getting pulled over with unreg'd cars and probably unlic'd handguns.

Even using stolen plates is a risk; Suffolk PD must have "plate-hunter"-equipped cruisers:

Oheka owner Gary Melius stable after surgery Saturday

Gary Melius, the Oheka Castle owner shot Monday in an apparent attempt on his life, had eye surgery Saturday morning at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, according to a family friend.

Melius, 69, underwent the surgery to "address damage done during the attack," said Gary Lewi, a friend of Melius who once served as a spokesman for former U.S. Sen. Alfonse D'Amato.
