Missing woman prompts police to issue public plea
Loretta Saunders, 26, hasn't been heard from since Friday -

Police are asking for the public’s help to find a Halifax woman who was last seen on Thursday. Loretta Saunders, 26, was reported missing on Monday. She was last seen Thursday evening and was in contact with friends online Friday afternoon. She has not been in contact with friends and family since, which police say is out of character for her.

This was in the original report, now updated:

Police did not say why they think Saunders is dead.

"Unfortunately, we're confident Ms. Saunders has passed," he said.

Bourdages said more than one person will face murder charges and that they would be laid "as soon as possible."

This means that LE knew as fact that Loretta was dead before they found her. This case was called a homicide before her body was found. IMO VH told police exactly where to find her body, not where they "dropped her off" while alive. If she was tied up, unable to walk, even in the car against her will alive and conscious, there would be a kidnapping charge and because she died, a murder charge. JMO

Remembering Loretta Saunders: journalist and friend says she touched many

As I write this, I’m not sure what I should type, or what I can even say to describe the pain that’s reverberating throughout Labrador right now. We’ve lost one of our own, in the most tragic way possible.

A beautiful young woman, three months pregnant, murdered while on her way to becoming a lawyer; a full life ahead of her.

They travelled ~2000 km before they were arrested, and ~250km before they put Loretta in the median.

Yesterday afternoon, Loretta’s disappearance was determined to be a homicide. Her remains were located in New Brunswick later that day. Her remains have been transported to the Coroner Services office in St. John, New Brunswick where an autopsy will be conducted in the coming days.

This afternoon, investigators in the HRP/RCMP Integrated Major Crime Unit laid charges against 28-year-old Victoria Henneberry and 25-year-old Blake Leggette. They are scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court tomorrow to each face a charge of first degree murder.

There is a mention here of chages for possession of stolen property and marijuana--that he skipped out on.
---

Quote: Blake Leggette, 25, is wanted on warrants for possession of stolen property and possession of marijuana. He had been scheduled to appear before a Drumheller, Alta., court on April 16, 2013, but failed to appear.

She will not be released after a slap on the wrist. She might think that she can wriggle out of this, but it won't happen.

Not only is Victoria Henneberry (AKA Galbraith) laid bare by her social media remarks before and after the murder, but her post murder smirk looks like she expects some adoration and sympathy.

This is the real Victoria Henneberry (aka Galbraith)

Wondering if the smirk relates to, what appears to be imo, a symbol of some sort formed by her thumbs?

We have to remember also that the max sentence of 25 years does not mean anyone is automatically released in 25 years.

Very classy family imo.
bbm.

"Coffey told The Telegram the outburst did not come from any of Saunders’ relatives as the family is determined to let the justice system do its work.

“We didn’t say anything in anger,” Coffey said.

Seeing Leggette in court was obviously difficult, and Saunders’ siblings who were present had hoped Leggette would look them in the face, but he did not, she said.

In a show of the family’s strength, Coffey said Saunders’ parents, Miriam and Clayton, who are mourning for their daughter in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, are also praying for the family of the accused.

“My family are not selfless,” Coffey said.

“Even when we are hurting, this is part of who we are
.”

I thought it strange in the footage of her arriving at court that she had a small red ? book with her and seemed determined as she got out to find a certain page. Was she going to show the page or is starting to build some sort of BS insane defence by saying a passage in a book made her do it or something else equally foolish.

Or that they will get the maximum. Look at the Vince Li case. He beheaded a man on a bus and now walks the streets alone on day paroles 6 yrs later. With his time out alone increasing.

Could this be part of why there is such a big push to have her death called a crime against an aboriginal woman instead of a crime against a woman as we have discussed previously ? Because if it is seen as a prejudice /hate crime against a culture/ race then it would have aggravating factors which would effect sentencing:
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criminal_sentencing_in_Canada
There are a number of aggravating factors a judge is required to consider both at common law and by statute. Common-law factors include whether or not the victim was a vulnerable victim.

General statutory aggravating factors are found in section 718.2 of the Criminal Code. They are:
Motivation due to bias, prejudice, or hate

Yes but he had severe psychiatric issues. It is scary the sentence is treated differently because if he ever gets out there is no guarantee he will stay on his meds.

Here is the CBC report that refers to the fb post that describes a chat Victoria Henneberry had with a friend on February 9th, stating she couldn't stand her roommate and calling her an anorexic c**t (whited out). The report also claims that VH was a former prostitute (likely when she was living in a hotel with another female friend). I do believe VH has mental issues but these will not impact the justice that will come her way.

Thank you to the WS posters who found this video information. It begins at the 8 minute mark: http://www.cbc.ca/player/News/Canada/NS/ID/2439833057/

Yes , sadly it is a matter of when not if since he is already receiving time out unescorted. This will keep building till he is eventually released. Such a shame.

Is a max of 25 years standard for murder in Canada or is it specific to this case. I read everything yesterday and may have missed why they only get 25 years versus life with no parole.
