My first time starting a thread about a local story. Please let me know if I'm posting wrong.

I find what this man, Herman Robinson, did just disgusting and sinister.

Authorities have charged a 38-year-old New York man with raping a girl starting when she was 11 and killing the newborn he fathered with her four years ago.

This is absolutely horrible! Why is he only being charged with 2nd degree murder instead of 1st degree murder when he clearly premeditated it?

Hoping to hear the answer to that at some point. As long as he never sees the outside of a prison wall again I'll be happy. I think the article I linked spoke of the victim as being 19 now and in college... moving on with her life. Best wishes to her.

Robinson is accused of engaging in various acts of sexual conduct with a child from the time the child was 11 and continuing until she was eighteen years old. An investigation revealed that Robinson impregnated the girl in June 2009, and she gave birth to a baby in March 2010.

Robinson killed the baby and disposed of its body upon delivery. The victim of the sexual assaults was not a stranger and is now in a safe location.

I haven't seen it written anywhere if they are related, but I'm thinking there's some sort of relationship with the accused and the victim/family... since the abuse went on for so long. Someone in the family or close to the family spoke out during a court appearance that she is in college and doing well.

A plea offer is on the table for Herman Robinson, who is accused of repeatedly raping a girl, impregnating her, and then killing the newborn baby.

If Robinson wanted to plead guilty, prosecutor Tracey Brunecz said in court Wednesday that the prosecution would accept a sentence of no less than 33 years to life in prison. That sentence would consist of the maximum sentence of 25 years to life for murder in the killing of the baby and an additional eight years for first-degree rape of the girl.

Judge Michael V. Coccoma did not require the defense to respond to the offer Wednesday, and neither Robinson nor his attorney, Sven Paul, reacted to it in court.

It's barely enough time, 33 yrs, but it would prevent her from having to testify. I'm sure she just wants to get on with her college life and out him in the rear view mirror. He is a useless waste of space.
 
Maybe someone in prison will show him the same mercy that he showed his baby.

Let him rot. What a . I hope she is able to move forward and have the life she deserves. :grouphug:
 
Thanks for the update. I have a google alert set but it didn't show me this. I think any murder should have a mandatory life sentence if not DP.

A Schenectady man accused of repeatedly raping a girl, impregnating her, then killing the newborn baby appeared in Schenectady county court this Wednesday morning.

Herman Robinson signed away his right to a jury trial. He also continues to plead not guilty even though the prosecution offered a plea deal of 33 years to life in prison...

After answering several questions by the judge, the judge accepted his waiver requesting a bench trial, meaning the judge will hear the evidence and make a verdict.
