Australia - Keeli Dutton, 41, stabbed to death, Miller, NSW, 25 Nov 2013

    March 8, 2014

The death of a woman - wife, mother, sister, daughter - from domestic violence is a weekly event in Australia.

On the same day the media crowded into the Supreme Court to hear a judge find Simon Gittany guilty of murdering his girlfriend Lisa Harnum, Keeli Dutton lay dead in her apartment.

The mother-of-three's stabbing death on November 26 went largely unreported. There was no expensive high-rise apartment, instead a housing commission block in Miller.

What might an abused woman be feeling and experiencing?

An abused women is often overwhelmed by fear, which can govern her every move a fear of: further violence, the unknown, her safety and the safety of her children do not underestimate the effects of fear
She often believes that she is at fault and that by changing her behaviour the abuse will stop. Research shows that this is not the case
She may experience a conflict of emotions. She may love her partner, but hate the violence. She may live in hope that his good side will reappear
She may be dependent upon her partner, emotionally and financially
She may experience feelings of shame, guilt and embarrassment
She may feel resigned and hopeless and find it hard to make decisions about her future

She was only four, but when Holly’s dad kept hurting her mother, she knew she had to tell someone
“Mum hadn’t told anybody so I told my (kindy) teachers – I just said ‘My dad strangled my mum’.”

“They (the teachers) were just shocked, I think, when I told.”

    From July 2015:

    http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/keeli-dutt...30-ginqta.html

On November 25, 2013, while under an order that supposedly forbade him from stalking, threatening or intimidating his 41-year-old partner Keeli Dutton, Murray stabbed her seven times in the back and then let her bleed to death face down on the floor...

"Such conduct is brutal, cowardly and inexcusable, particularly in the home they shared," Justice Monika Schmidt said in sentencing Murray to a maximum of 25 years' jail, with a minimum of 19 years, in the NSW Supreme Court on Thursday...

Murray eventually pleaded guilty to the murder on the day his murder trial was due to start last month.
