    Germany - Dano K., 5, Herford, 14 March 2014

    http://www.bild.de/news/inland/vermi...1622.bild.html

    Basic translation:

Since Friday, the five-year-old boy from Herford (NRW) has disappeared without a trace . Dano wanted only to the playground, which is only 150 meters away from home. He did not come back home.

Because the playground is located just 50 meters from the shores of the Werre away, the police searched on first of hundreds from the river bank. To no avail.
Now an investigation commission was set up. "The extensive search was unsuccessful. The trend is now unfortunately a crime, "says senior public prosecutor Ina Leinkauf. Therefore, investigators of the Criminal Commissioner 11 are used, which are responsible for homicides.
In the evening, officials concentrated with sniffer dogs at the residence of the child and the neighborhood. Police spokesman Achim Ridder (57): "At the same time but run further action. It is still quite possible that the boy had an accident. "
Parents Almedin (25) and Samira K. (24) are desperate. Family and friends now distributed 2000 leaflets - in the hope that SOMEBODY Dano has seen.

Only recently it is said to have been an incident on the river. Dano had slipped away from the shore into the water. But the sister (7) held him at the last second. Mother Samira K. (24): "That would have him actually have to be a lesson ..."

She begs, as if she feared the worst: "I want my child."

This is only 30 minutes away from me. I really hope he is found soon but I fear the worst

I've not submitted a thread before so forgive me if I've done it wrong.

Is it normal for a 5 year old to be allowed to a park without a parent ?
I won't let my 5 year old go check the mail without me.

It's actually illegal in Germany to allow kids out without adult supervision before they are 8, in the region I live in anyway which is the same as Herford. I'm more than a little annoyed he was out alone, especially so close to water that he's already almost fallen into. If, in fact, he was out at all. I suppose there's no telling in cases like this - call me cynical.

My daughter is 7 and I don't even go and clean upstairs and leave her in the garden as I can't see her. I don't understand why people think it's ok to let their kids roam free but horses for courses, I guess.

    Unhappy

Unfortunately, a child's body has been found in the river, it's thought to be Dano. What a shame.

A neighbour has been arrested. He's suspected of the murder of a little girl in 2007, and possibly more.

Dano was not found in the river as I said before, he was found about 200 metres away from the river. Post mortem results are expected today.
