Sequeira had suicide attempts in his past, according to the initial investigation. He lived a life of low-income work in a remote part of the county and stayed with people who were not very sympathetic and who once or still suffer from addictions.

Was it suicide? Was it murder? Did he die from an accident? Did he run off? “We just don’t know,” Jones added. Although Sequeira’s mother might have suspicions about her son’s possible fate, the investigation conducted by detectives with the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office hasn’t found a course with any traction.
Jones said the area where Sequeira went missing, which is located in the far southeast corner of the county near the Mogollon Rim, was searched for several days. Volunteers with the county Search and Rescue unit conducted a grid search of the area. Tank ponds for cattle were searched. Helicopters flew overhead. “They couldn’t come up with anything,” Jones said. “But you could have half the county out there searching and not find anything.”
The area is rugged, with dense brush -- and plenty of locations where a body could go undiscovered.
