Nigeria - Corpses, slaves in house of horrors

Many rotting bodies have been discovered in an abandoned 'house of horrors' in the city of Ibadan, Nigeria, along with seven living, starving slaves in shackles and chains. One surviving woman (pictured) has been reported as having gone missing in 2008, and suspicions were apparently raised when motorcycle taxi drivers recently reported their colleagues had started going missing.

Some arrests have been made. The BBC is reporting black magic rituals or torture may feature in this case.

Oh no. One prisoner said she gave birth Friday, but the baby was immediately taken away.

I counted six sets of remains, just in those few photos at the link.

Yikes. 6 people arrested, per this new article at the same source. I'm confused about the armed youth roaming the forest, but hopefully all the people responsible will be dealt with and charged.

re: potential of "black magic".. I don't know if the woman pictured just has dirty/dusty hair or slight albinism, but I wonder if that could have played a part, since albino Nigerians have been murdered for it.

Oh dear, there have been riots outside the house now, with 20 people reported injured.

Also....black magic rumors are still flying around, with local media reporting human organs were being sold at night from the house.

At first, because there was mention of it being a commercial building, I thought these may have been enslaved workers of some sort. I really don't know what to think now. That emaciated lady does have the appearance of an albino, and I have read about such people being used in rituals in some countries - especially children.

Seems really strange an operation and enslavement like that could carry on in such a major city though. it's also worrying that rioters are protesting that police are 'refusing to let us help our brothers and sisters underground'. What on earth can that mean?

ETA: Are those police giants or is it just the camera angle?

A friend who lived and worked in Nigeria for several years did tell me some tales of terrible things that happened there in very public places. But that was years ago and I've never been there myself, so I don't know what it is like there now.

Oh, I see now. Rioters believe some survivors are still trapped in an underground apartment where bodies were found! They are also roaming the forest with cutlasses etc, looking for the perps, and have demolished the buildings. While corpses are still in place.

I think it's safe to say any forensic evidence is well and truly contaminated and just everyone should stay away in case they get mistaken for a 'perp'. They will doubtless be killed if the crowds find them first, imo.

Where's that newborn baby that disappeared, is what I want to know?
