Oy. Here's a couple of links for this one. The last sentence below boggles my mind.

CINCINNATI -- When construction workers having lunch on a park bench saw a teenager washing blood from his hands in a public fountain, they thought he must have been injured.

But after they called 911, the teen led police to his family's home 5 1/2 blocks from the fountain, in the upscale Hyde Park neighborhood, to the body of his brother who had been beaten to death.

Andrew Warrington, 16, was charged with murder Tuesday night in the death that afternoon of his 17-year-old brother, John, police said.

"We'd like to thank the community for their love and support at this extremely difficult time," the victim's uncle, Peter McGarey, said in a prepared statement read outside the family's home, where friends had laid flowers on the sidewalk leading up to the house.

"The Warrington family has suffered a horrible tragedy. Johnny's brother is a wonderful and loving child who has the full love and support of his entire family. We would hope that the legal system is allowed to run its course."

I think I have just realized something worse than losing your child. Losing your child by the hand of your other child.

Summit Country Day students celebrated the life of a classmate Thursday who police say was beaten to death with a baseball bat by his younger brother.

Summit seniors, members of the student senate and friends of Johnny Warrington - the 17-year-old senior and victim of Tuesday's homicide in Hyde Park - planned the hour-long, private memorial service at the school's chapel Thursday afternoon.

"They handled it in a respectful, but upbeat manner," said Summit Upper School director Thomas Monaco. "It went very well."

School officials asked media not to attend and declined to give details after the ceremony.

"It was just a very personal ceremony for the students," said Summit spokeswoman Jennifer Pierson. "At this point, we're honoring the request of the family. They've asked for privacy and we're going to respect that request and just let people mourn privately now."

Earlier in the day, Hamilton County Coroner O'dell Owens released the autopsy results on Warrington's body.

The coroner determined the death a homicide caused by blunt trauma to his head, resulting in skull fractures and injury to his brain.

A juvenile judge permitted a Hyde Park teen charged with killing his brother to transfer from the county's juvenile detention center to a Children's Hospital branch for better treatment of what his attorneys call a "severe mental illness."

Hamilton County Juvenile Judge Thomas Lipps allowed the transfer of Andrew Warrington after Michael Sorter, director of psychiatry at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, testified that Warrington's mental health is deteriorating.

Lipps ordered the transfer and set an Aug. 3 date for a competency hearing to determine if Warrington, who is charged with fatally beating his brother with a baseball bat, is capable of understanding the court proceedings and assisting attorneys in his defense.

Court psychiatrist Drew Barzman testified two weeks ago that Warrington had paranoid schizophrenia and was refusing medication.

Sorter said the teen might have been suffering from mental health problems since the fall.

Schmidtgoessling wrote Warrington had been on medication for attention problems, but had not previously been diagnosed with a major mental disorder.

I was wondering what was going on with this case. Thanks for posting the article. This one is going to be interesting!

I wondered if mental illness was a catalyst here. Washing his hands like he was, right there in public, kinda gave me a clue.

I feel so bad for his family. I am sure they are filled with "woulda's and coulda's", concerning both sons.

If the boy has mental illness, I hope they can help him stabilize and then cope with what he did.

The Hyde Park teen accused of killing his brother with a baseball bat has been ruled incompetent to stand trial -- for now.

Wednesday morning, a Hamilton County judge ruled the teen, who's a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic, can't be put to trial right now.

That's because the prosecution's doctor now agrees with doctors used by the defense -- that the teenager cannot even sit through a trial at this point.

But the prosecution's doctor believes the boy could get the needed treatment to stand trial by next year.

"There's two parts to this. He understand the nature of the offense and the proceedings and things like that. But because of his schizophrenia, he cannot attend a hearing. It is Dr. Resnicks opinion though, that he could be restored within a year," said Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters on Wednesday.

Andrew Warrington waived his right to a trial by jury Friday in favor of a plea agreement sentencing him to a treatment facility rather than prison...

Court documents reveal Andrew suffers from paranoid schizophrenia and he thought his brother John was trying to kill him...

"For the rest of his life if the Judge feels he's a threat to himself or others he'll never get out." says Deters when asked about the length of time Warrington will spend in the facility.
