Canada - Shooting at Brampton, Ontario, courthouse

lots of witnesses calling into media (lawyers etc. in the building) - everyone was rushed into courtrooms and locked down and some saying they heard as many as five (5) shots

this is all over every news channel right now in Canada - live reporting

this is not a regular occurance around here so it's pretty big news right now

someone in the courthouse is posting photos on the Star.com of the wounded police officer being wheeled to the ambulance

she has a view from above

omg, I just read that paramedics were performing CPR and that early reports are that two are dead - which would probably mean the police officer and the shooter

I'm sick to my stomach right now

shooting reportedly occurred near the ground floor entrance ...

police cars escorted the ambulance with the police officer to Sunnybrook hospital

omgomgomg

S.I.U. (Special Investigations Unit) is already on scene and has already invoked their mandate, according to the live twitter feed on star.com.

Sorry the link looks like that...I pasted it over here to this post.

"..... Peel Police confirmed to The Toronto Star that one of their officers was involved in the shooting. It's unclear if he was at the courthouse in his capacity as a police officer or if he was a court officer stationed at the courthouse....."

also, there's one pic of the officer being loaded into the ambulance - it's a side view - it's close-up and the officer (IMO) is easily identifiable

I really hope his family did not see that prior to being notified that their loved one had been shot

one source is reporting that there were other victims and they were transported to a different hospital ...

I've only seen this from one person so I don't know whether to believe it

at the same place I also read that the officer had non-life threatening injuries (ummm, then why were they doing CPR on him, which could be clearly seen in the photos posted?!) and that there is a second suspect in the building (ummm, they're already letting people out of the locked rooms so I highly doubt that!)

yeah ... sooo ... grain of salt at this link:

there apparently is a terrorist-related trial going on there right now ... not saying that it's connected because there's obviously a myriad of possibilities but just putting this out there

I have to go for awhile. I hope that when I am able to check back in, that there will be a happy update and the police officer will be alive.

From the Toronto Star:
An ambulance on its way to hospital. A police officer critically wounded, shot in the stomach and at Sunnybrook trauma centre. Shooter also shot after struggle with Peel police at the courthouse and is dead, SIU confirms.

A witness described the officer recieving 'CPR', but this photo appears as though an EMT was applying pressure to the wound. If it were CPR they would be performing chest compressions as they pushed him to the ambulance, IMO (lab tech).

Toronto Star:

Veteran Peel Const. Mike Klarenbeek, 53, critically wounded, shot in the stomach and at Sunnybrook trauma centre. Unidentified gunman also shot after struggle with Peel police at the courthouse and is dead, SIU confirms. No other injuries. Lockdown ends after two hours.

So glad this officer survived the emergency run to Sunnybrook - his best chance by the best for trauma treatment.

From CTV TO @ 6:

Officer in stable condition at Sunnybrook.
Shooting occurred before the security checkpoint.
Shooter tried to enter thru the “lawyer” area but was told to go thru main security checkpoint but he just started shooting.
Students on a field trip were in the upper gallery, all are okay.
Shooter is dead, believed to be from Brampton.
Police and SIU urging anyone who was at the courthouse before, during or after to call in with any details. Many people escaped in the mayhem and went home or back to their office.

yes, you're right - from other angles, it did look like he was doing CPR

glad to know he'll be getting good care at Sunnybrook

STABLE CONDITION - awesome news!!!

so the police officer who was shot was not his target - wonder what the shooter's plans were for inside the courthouse ...

I hope they soon release names
