Oscar Pistorius: South Africa gears up for its 'trial of the century'

(CNN) -- He was one of South Africa's favorite sons, an amputee track star who defied all the odds and sprinted into the hearts of millions during the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. She was a staggering beauty with the brains to match, a law graduate and model whose star was on the rise.

Admin/Mod Note

Thank you all for participating! This forum has a special dynamic - good sleuthers, intelligent discussions, though provoking opinions expressed ... it makes it enjoyable to read & moderate. We sincerely thank you for that!

The last few days I've been disappointed to see a few exchanges begin to deteriorate  - escalating from a lack of tolerance for differing opinions. Of course opinions are going to differ when a bunch of intelligent, independent thinkers have a discussion. That's a good thing, not a bad thing. I understand the passion but the purpose should not be to change anyone else's mind. Respect your fellow posters and make a conscious effort to be tolerant. Please note that passive-aggressive, snarky, personalized posts will not be tolerated and, beginning immediately, will result in a loss of posting privileges.

Thanks all. :heartbeat:

If anyone is up for a little mock trial of Oscar's upcoming cross examination by Nel, throw out questions you think Nel should ask Oscar that will reveal something beneficial to the state's case - and we'll see if we can come up with hypothetical answers that either that either expose Oscar's version as false or that explain it in a plausible manner.

is the 'we' in this invitation inferring that more than one person is going to 'come up with hypothetical answers'??

other people apart and separate from the poster issuing the invitation?

if so, may I enquire who the 'we' consists of?

if the 'we' was a figure of speech, as in the Royal 'we' or the Editorial 'we' . .. or even the psychoanalytical 'we'.. then please distinguish.

Thanks for treats. I certainly hope some of these displayed are gluten free!!!

Every night the world is conducting field research on the killer's hypothetical explanations for feeling a rush of terror when a spouse gets up to pee.

Every night 3 billion reasonable people know their spouse is peeing and don't kill them.

I was curious as to what other 'hypotheticals' would be required.. we have 2 already, the only ones that count..

Oscars Bail Aff,

Oscars Trial Statement..

I put it to you, and in all fairness , Nastasya, what else does one need?

Perhaps the "we" referred to all of the people discussing this case in this forum.
It is obvious that the prevailing sentiment is "Presumption of guilt" and there may be lots of people with hypothetical "Nel Zingers" :)

Those likely to propose a "Hypothetical OP answer" would be few :)

How many red flags does one need before one sees that OP's story simply can not be true as he has stated it?

The timeline is a pesky thing that shows his story is lacking and IMO full of lies.

Then we also have the ear witnesses, the ballistics expert, witnesses that have witnessed OP's bad behavior in the past, the text messages, the eye witness that saw OP trot along upstairs instead of staying with his "beloved", etc.

With all of the things that OP has to "explain away", I expect him to be on the witness stand for at least three days.

MOO

Am I correct in the bedroom door was damaged from the exterior of the room?

So I've checked and it is double doors to bedroom ie one can stay fixed one can open or both. So not so hard to break open really as the only thing holding doors together was bolt across centre. and with enough force would fling open if not secured at base or top of fixable door.

Does anyone propose that this event may have started downstairs? Or again was the door damage a prior as Oscar had stated door was locked and if so it had to be locked from inside. if locked from inside it does not need to bashed open from outside, does it?

Mark....thought I'd make everyone's weekend.

Goodnight all! I've really enjoyed spending time with you today. Hasta mañana!

I've just started to follow the OP case and am finding it quite interesting. I had a couple of questions regarding the toilet door.

The door to the toilet was locked. Oscar says he broke the door with the cricket bat and found the key on the floor.

My questions are:

1. Was the key on the floor in the toilet room where Reeva was?
2. If the key was on Reeva's side of the toilet room and OP didn't have his legs, how was he able to reach through the crack in the door to reach the floor and pick up the key?

Thank you

Sayonara slueths......off to make taste or waste depending on my culinary skills!

Just entertain me with your theories on why bedroom damage is on exterior if door locked by Oscar himself internally? During this event or any other event?
I mean how many times can you lock yourself out of your own bedroom when you need a key to lock it from each side?

I agree!

1. If you believe OP then possibly yes, though I don't think he specified anywhere whether he found them on the floor inside the toilet room or in the bathroom(his plea and affidavit were deliberately vague), personally I think he may have been the one to have locked her in.

2. Assuming it was on the floor inside of the toilet room and he didn't use the keys in his drawer, or his pocket, he would have either had to have ripped out enough panels to insert the bat far enough to pull them towards and under the door to him, or after he'd pulled out all but one of the upper panels was able to get into the toilet room himself to get it.

Don't forget, even without his prosthetics, OP was somewhere around 5'2" I believe(was about 6'1" or 6'2" with them on) and he was an olympic athlete and in training at the time, so was certainly fit enough to hoist himself through the opening he created in the door if the need arose and certainly having to break in to "save" RS would fit that bill.

Some have speculated that RS may have still had it/them in her hand and perhaps that's why they think OP claims to have fought to get her out of the toilet room. Imo after the hits she sustained she would likely have dropped them when she collapsed, if she even had them to start with.
