    NY - Jean Taber, 82, Riverside, 3 April 2014

    Jean Taber

Search Continues For Missing Elderly Woman In Riverside -

New York State Police, friends and family were searching for an 82-year-old woman who went missing in Riverside on Thursday afternoon after taking her cocker spaniel for a walk on Route 104. Police said Jean Taber left the Riverwoods Mobile Home park, where she lives, on Thursday at about 2 p.m. wearing a black vest and a black dress and was seen walking south with the dog on Route 104. She was still missing as of 10:25 a.m. on Saturday morning, police said.
Crews of volunteer firefighters, emergency medical services personnel and community members from across the East End joined the New York State and Southampton Town Police departments in searching for Ms. Taber, who was still missing as of Saturday evening.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

"When from a long distant past nothing persists, after the people are dead, after things are broken and scattered, still alone, more persistent, more faithful, the smell and taste of things remain poised a long, long time like souls, ready to remind us, waiting, hoping for their moment amid the ruins of all the rest, and bear unfaltering in the tiny and almost impalpable drop of their essence the vast structure of recollection."

The dog part concerns me...if she was looking for him she could have easily gotten turned around or fallen and not be as visible.

Glad they've got a lot of resources out looking for her, but being older and it being cold isn't encouraging several days into it. Hopefully she's curled up with her dog and he's helping her keep warm!

Some say she was walking her cocker spaniel, named Freckles, while others say she was looking for the dog. The great-grandmother has mild dementia and is on medication.
Contrast in the clothing description initially given:

The woman's son, Glenn Taber, fought back tears as he spoke to News 12 today. "I'm trying to stay hopeful," he said. "It's been obviously two days and it's been cold at night."

Taber is described as standing at 5 feet tall and weighing about 110 pounds. She has red hair and hazel eyes, and was last seen wearing a yellow shirt, a black vest, beige pants and a hat.

    Another pic of her

Doing a line search (or did, it probably really is at this point) today and many agencies involved.

Fire departments on scene included Riverhead, Jamesport, Flanders and Eastport. New York State troopers, Department of Environmental Conservation police and Southampton police were also on scene.

Also a good thing they could look for on the ground perhaps...
She is not carrying any identification, but is wearing a penicillin allergy bracelet, her daughter, Susan Duffin, said.

I'm glad that her Freckles was there with her so she wasn't alone.

Her red and white cocker spaniel, Freckles was found alive by her side, and taken to a veterinarian for examination, said State Trooper Stephen Campo

Sad ending. I am so sorry for this family's loss.
